Big Fig is a company that specializes in mattresses for plus-sized sleepers, and their one and only mattress — the Big Fig — has had a lot of time and resources sunk into it to make sure it is perfect for its target demographic. This specialization created a mattress that is not only great for plus-sized sleepers, but also for big couples who want more from their mattress than a good-night's rest.
I consider the Big Fig to be the best mattress for plus-sized couples thanks to how well it performs during moments of intimacy. It is soft to the touch, enough to have good motion isolation for those of you who wake easily, but firm enough to offer enough support for heavy weights, while being bouncy and responsive enough to allow for easy repositioning.
The big fig is close to the Saatva HD than it is to the Helix Plus both in terms of firmness and cost, so if you're looking for a softer and cheaper mattress than that, then you should probably look elsewhere. But, if you have the money to spend, and are looking for a mattress you can sleep on top of rather than inside of, and your partner is looking for the same, then this will be a great match for the two of you.
The Big Fig also makes sure that you're not waking up hot and drenched in sweat in the middle of the night. The cover of the mattress is infused with ThermoGel technology, which helps keep you cool, and the upper layers are made with Latex, which also helps you better dissipate heat, but one of the main reasons for this mattress being on the cooler side is due to its firmness level. You don't sink into it enough for it to contour to your shape, meaning that your surface area is allowed to breath and freely expel heat and moisture. The Big Fig also provides solid edge support, ensuring that that you always feel supported, even near its edges, and you never get that roll-off feeling.
The specialization of the Big Fig for heavy couples does make it a bad match for petite sleepers, though, so if your partner is much smaller than you, then you may want to try out the other options presented here instead.

The Saatva HD is one of the most luxurious mattresses for plus-sized sleepers on the market, and excels in several different important areas. It may not be the cheapest option out there, but it's definitely worth the asking price.
The Saatva HD is a heavy duty hybrid mattress specifically designed for people who weigh upwards of 500 pounds. It delivers outstanding comfort and pressure relief in every sleeping position, having a medium-firm feel that will suit most heavyset sleepers. Its average cushioning depth and medium bounce allow it to contour to your shape without enveloping you, and help you move about and change positions.
The fact that the Saatva HD doesn't fully conform to your shape is not the only reason for it being such a heat sink, though. The hybrid nature of the mattress means that a lot of air can circulate within its coil layer. Its foams are also perforated to allow for more heat dissipation, and it features a distinctly breathable cover. The downside here is that the foams above the coil layer are very thick, and the entire mattress is encased in a foam perimeter, both of which hinder air circulation and, thus, cooling. Overall, though, the HD is still quite effective at wicking heat and moisture.
The Saatva HD's foam perimeter does, however, greatly bolster the mattress' edge support, and, while the mattress doesn't have a perimeter of extra durable coils since it instead features a connected coil unit, you can still sleep on its edge without any issue. The durable connected coil unit is better for pressure relief under heavy weights, though, so that definitely works in the HD's favor.
And, while you would logically expected connected coils to have more motion transfer than individual coils, it is threaded with helical wire to dramatically dampen motion transfer, making for a mattress with very noticeable motion isolation.
Saatva mattresses are known to be made of high-quality organic and hypoallergenic materials, and the Saatva HD is no different. Those of you with allergen sensitivities who are looking for better quality sleep will find the HD to be a great match.
Finally, Saatva offers white glove delivery at no extra charge. It's whole shipping process itself is rather exemplary, and you'll be notified and coordinated with every step of the way. The mattress will take a bit of time to get to your doorstep, but you'll need to do none of the work, and it even comes as it is - meaning no need to wait for it to decompress or off-gas.

The Helix Plus is a fantastic option if you suffer from aches and pains and need good pressure relief in your mattress, especially for lumbar alignment and to ease pressure off of your shoulders and hips. It's also one of the cheapest mattresses around, which is definitely a plus.
This hybrid mattress is constructed with several support layers, plush polyester quilt with gel-infused memory foam, high-density foams and a layer of durable individually-pocketed coils. These make the mattress a delight to the touch, and especially comfortable while sleeping on your side due to its relatively deep cushioning depth, medium firmness, and aforementioned individual coils. The layer of coils also has a reinforced perimeter for added edge support, which will make the bed feel larger than it is thanks to your ability to soundly sleep on its edges.
The downside of this design is that polyester lacks breathability and so tends to retain heat. Helix does offer you an added layer made of a cooling phase change fabric for an extra $100, which will solve your midnight overheating problem.
While the mattress has great pressure-point relief if you tend to sleep on your side or on your back, most heavyset people will find it a bit too soft for sleeping on their stomach. Their mid section will sink in further than their waist or shoulders, which will improperly align their spine. I have to stress how impressively comfortable the Helix Plus is while sleeping on your side, though, as the softness of the initial layers helped my shoulders and hips sink in enough for by back to remain straight, without feeling too much pressure on my joints. This is impressive considering the weight of the sleepers, and the amount of support a mattress needs to exert while that mass is concentrated mainly on the shoulders and waist.
The Helix Plus mattress also has very good motion isolation, which isn't much of a surprise considering its memory foam upper layer and its layer of individually wrapped pocketed coils, which move independently of one another. Even when jumping in bed, the motion will barely be felt on other parts of the mattress. This mattress is great for couples where one is a light sleeper, also for intimacy, as changing positions on it is rather effortless, despite its softness. There is, however, a soft crinkling sound when moving on top of the mattress, but it's not very noticeable.

The Brooklyn Bedding Titan Firm is one of the industry's cheapest mattresses for heavy people. It, even along with its foundation, will cost around half of what you'd normally pay for an online mattress for plus-sized folks, and it's even discounted year-round. If you're looking for a high-quality affordable mattress, this is it.
The Titan Firm is fantastically supportive for back and stomach sleepers. It is firm enough while sporting adequate pressure relief for heavyset sleepers. Some will find it too firm for sleeping on one's side, though, in which case I recommend they try out the Brooklyn Bedding Titan Luxe instead. Its softer, and more suitable for side sleepers, but that makes it less suitable for heavy stomach sleepers. It's also a bit pricier than the Firm.
Whatever you choose, though, you're pretty much guaranteed a cool sleep without much disturbance. The motion isolation of the Titan firm is quite good, as is its heat wicking. It features gel-infused memory foam and a coil layer, both of which increase airflow and cooling. You can also choose to add PCM (phase change material) fabric to the cover, which further increases the cooling capabilities of the mattress.
Due to its firmness and low cushioning depth, the Titan Firm mattress is also very easy to move on top of. If you like switching positions from back sleep to front sleep, have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, or just prefer a mattress that you can easily reposition on during intimate moments, then the Titan Firm will suit your needs. The Titan Firm even has good edge support, which will further enhance your enjoyment of it during intimacy, and even during sleep, as it makes the mattress feel even bigger than it is.
Titan is a subsidiary company of Brooklyn Bedding, one that specializes in mattresses for heavyweight people and only creates two such mattresses — the Firm and the Luxe — pouring much of their time and resources into perfecting these two products and their production process, so you can enjoy a high quality mattresses for your bigger size, and not have to spend an arm and a leg for it.

If you’re a side sleeper and aren’t sure that Big Fig will be the best for you due to its firmness level, but you still want a mattress that's good for couples and is specialized with your size in mind, then consider the WinkBed Plus. It’s a comfortable, pillow top mattress made with high quality, durable materials, ensuring you a comfortable sleep even on your side.
While not the cheapest option on the market, the WinkBed Plus is nevertheless one of your best options, and is one of the most critically acclaimed and awarded mattresses in the world. I even edges out the Brooklyn Bedding Titan Firm for back and front sleepers, as it is firmer and features a plush covers that balances out the need for firmness with pressure relief, making the mattress both supportive and comfortable.
The Euro pillow top of the mattress is made of Tencel and is stuffed with gel-infused foam, and the mattress features individually wrapped coils, making for a cooler and less sweaty sleep. The pillow top of the mattress does cause it to have more sinkage, which is great for those of you who want that, but less so for anyone who prefers a bouncy mattress with better ease of repositioning during nighttime and intimate moments.
The WinkBed Plus does, however, make up for that with some fantastic motion isolation qualities. If you're a light sleeper or you sleep beside a restless partner, then this mattress will help you stay soundly asleep.
The WinkBed Plus is made to have a soft traditional innerspring feel, and also feel much larger than it is, thanks to WinkBeds' trademarked edge support system, which features bolstered perimeter coils and foams. You won't feel like you're about to roll off the bed even if you sleep on its edge, allowing you to comfortably use the entirety of the mattress.
Lastly, WinkBeds offers a very generous lifetime warranty, so if you want a good option for the long run, then the WinkBed is just that. it even ships quick, and can even reach your doorstep in 3 days from the moment you order it.

Rating the Best Mattresses for Heavy Sleepers
When looking for a mattress for heavier sleepers, the most important thing to do is to look for mattresses that were actually designed for plus-sized folks. A mattress needs to be specially designed and built with your weight in mind, otherwise it will only be a moderate fit for you. But, while designing a mattress from the ground up for heavy people in mind is paramount, there are still factors that are essential for some heavier folks to have a good night's sleep, such as:
- Pressure relief - A mattress for large folks should have a good amount of pressure point relief, since they are the people that require it most. Without sufficient pain relief, you'll be waking up stiff, sore and aching.
- Ease of repositioning - More mass requires more effort to move, so a mattress for plus-sized sleepers shouldn't feel like a quagmire. It should be responsive and springy enough to help you move about and easily change positions.
- Heat and moisture wicking - The heavier you are, the more prone you are to overheating and sweating during sleep. A good mattress for oversized folks should have materials that address this issue, such as copper or breathable fabrics.
- Durability - This should go without saying: a mattress for heavier-than-average folks should be more durable than average. This includes thicker support layers and more durable materials to prevent sagging.
Each mattress we recommend, while excelling in different aspects, has all the above qualities is good amounts. All mattresses presented here are also CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX certified, meaning that they are made with no harmful materials.
As a side note, mattresses for larger folks are usually thicker and heavier than standard mattresses, and may be harder to haul and unpack for some. It's therefore a great boon for the mattress company to have white glove delivery service for the mattress. Of which companies offer this delivery service, is mentioned above.
Conclusion
Luckily for you, in this day and age, you won't lack options for your larger size, nor would you need to have your bed custom made. No matter your preferences or needs, you'll find something that suits you among the mattresses here. Figure out your preferred sleeping styles, budget, and any special needs (such as your partner's preferences or the amount of cooling you'd like the mattress to have), and you'll easily know which mattress here will suit you best.
All of the mattresses presented here also have a trial period, and all of them can be returned for free if you find them to not fit your needs. There's really no reason to not try them out, other than the time you'll be spending ordering them, scheduling the delivery, unpacking them (in the case of mattresses with no white glove delivery) and trying them out.
How can I try out these mattresses?
There's a button at the bottom of each mattress appraisal that will redirect you to the mattress company's website, where you can purchase it at a discount. Each of these companies let you try out the mattress for a few months and either keep it or return it for a full refund (though some of them charge a small fee for retrieval). In this way, you can try out any of these mattresses, see if it's to your liking, and return it if it's not.
What are the warranties on these mattresses?
Most of these companies offer at least a 10-year warranty that covers any damage done to the mattress not by misuse or negligence, though some offer a lifetime warranty. You can read the review of the mattress by clicking it's company's logo for more details.
Do these mattresses come in a box?
Most online mattresses do, and thus require a day to decompress and off-gas, preferably in a well-ventilated space. Saatva mattresses, however, come as they are, and shipped by professionals directly to your bedroom, and therefore don't need to decompress or off-gas.
Do these mattresses come with a foundation?
No, unless you order one along with them. Most of these mattresses are also incompatible with standard bed bases due to their special make, though you can always purchase a special foundation that will support both the mattress and your heavy weight from the company website. Check my mattress reviews and their company websites for more details on compatible bases and your options.
Where can these mattresses be shipped to?
These companies currently only ship to the contiguous United States, not including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, etc. They do, however, usually ship to Alaska and Hawaii for an additional fee.
Can they remove my existing mattress when the new one is delivered?
Some companies, like Saatva, do so at no additional cost, though most don't offer this service. Check a mattress' review or its company site for more information in this regard.
