Mattress Construction

The WinkBed Plus is 13.5'' thick. It has 4 layers including hardened foam and a robust coil system, which makes it highly supportive and durable.

The layers of the WinkBed Plus

Cover: Eco-friendly 100% natural Tencel fabric made of eucalyptus cellulose. Being  highly breathable, Tencel reduces body heat.

Comfort Layer: Dense poly foam (1.8 PCF) and 2.5'' latex. The hardened poly foam gives the mattress firmness while the latex provides bounciness.

Support Layer: 7.5'' individually-wrapped coils divided into three zones. This zoning architecture gives better orthopedic point support.

Edge Support Layer: Dense poly foam (1.8 PCF) surrounding the coils reinforcing the mattress' perimeter.

Feel

How a person experiences a mattress is a function of body weight and the materials the mattress is made of. Generally speaking, the first feel ones gets while lying on the WinkBed Plus is firmness and stability thanks to the mattress' supportive nature.

This firmness is well balanced by the latex in the comfort layer which responds to sleeper's body weight with pleasant bounciness enhancing comfort.

Equally important, the Tencel fabric in the mattress' cover is cool to the touch providing sleepers with a refreshing feel, which invigorates the body.

Pressure Relief

The WinkBed Plus is too firm for lightweight sleepers. Insufficient contouring will result in rising pressure in different areas of the body depending on their sleeping position. Back sleepers may suffer from pain in the thoracic spine. Side sleepers will feel stiff in the shoulders and hips. Stomach sleepers will experience discomfort in the lumbar area.

Average weight back sleepers will still find the WinkBed Plus to be overly firm. The lack of softer memory foam makes the mattress inadequately pressure reliving for them.

On the contrary, average weight side and stomach sleepers, who require a more supportive mattress, will enjoy the lift generated by the dense poly foam in the comfort layer and the 7.5'' coils. At the same time, the buoyant 2.5'' latex will respond well to their body weight alleviating pressure.

The WinkBed Plus is ideal for plus-size sleepers of all types. It's firm enough to prevent discomfort as a result of over-sinking. The orthopedic zoning support provided by the coil system simultaneously targets the three important areas in the back — the cervical, the thoracic and the lumbar spine keeping them all well aligned.

Motion Isolation

The WinkBed Plus doesn't score high in its capacity to isolate sleepers' movements. There is no soft foam to absorb the motion generated kinetic energy transferred by the body-responsive latex and the coils.

On the bright side, the coils are individually encased, and, therefore, the intensity of the motion they transfer is lower compared to older innerspring systems. Practically speaking, you'll not be bothered by your partner minor movements at night. However, if he/she is a restless sleeper, you'll certainly feel disturbed.

Repositioning

Unlike motion isolation, the WinkBed Plus performs well when it comes to repositioning. The firmness of the mattress, which prevents over-sinking, and the elastic latex make movement on the surface quite easy even for plus-size sleepers. This is wonderful for couples as they won't have a problem changing positions while engaging in intimate activity.

Edge Support

The WinkBed Plus is characterized by excellent edge support in comparison to other hybrid mattresses on the market. Its layer of dense poly foam surrounding the coils make its perimeter firmer and, consequently, highly stable. This enables sleepers to utilize the entire surface of the mattress with no need to move towards the center.

Heat Retention

The WinkBed is a good choice for people who live in a hot and humid climate or for those who tend to sleep hot regardless of their place of residence. The materials it's made of reduce heat retention. The Tencel fabric in the cover pulls heat away from sleepers' body. The open-cell structure of the latex in the comfort layer increases the mattress' breathability. Finally, the coils enable free flow of air facilitating moisture wicking.

Frame & Foundation

You can put your WinkBed Plus on almost all types of foundations and bed frames firm enough to support it. Center support is highly crucial when using a bed frame.

WinkBeds' foundation is especially designed to carry the WinkBed Plus providing it with the support it requires. Its prices vary from $279 for a Twin size mattress to $369 for a California King mattress.

WinkBeds' Heavy Duty Bed Frame can support more than 2,500 pounds, which makes it highly suitable for plus-size sleepers and for a relatively heavy mattress, such as the WinkBed Plus. This frame is built from fiberglass infused with resin. It's warm to the touch and easy to clean. It can't stand on its own and has to come with a foundation or a boxspring. Its starting price is $150 for a Twin mattress. Maximum price stands at $250 for a California King Mattress.

The WinkBed Plus also works well with adjustable bases. WinkBeds offers you its single piece lightweight Winkbase 2.0. It fits Twin XL, Queen, King and California King mattresses. It'll cost you $949, $999, and $1,399 respectively. This base comes with a limited warranty of 10 years.

You'll be charged $49 for the exchange, and you'll get another 60-day trial for the new mattress. After the trial period ends, you'll have the option to return your mattress and receive a new one at half price.

The WinkBed Plus is backed by a lifetime warranty which covers manufacturing defects defined as indentations greater than 1.5'' on the surface of the mattress and premature deterioration of the foam. The warranty doesn't cover normal wear-and-tear, stains, cuts and burning marks. It becomes void in cases of neglect or maltreatment, the use of an improper foundation in particular.

The Bottom Line

The WinkBed Plus is a great choice for heavyweight sleepers looking for a high-quality mattress which offers strong support without compromising comfort. It's not the cheapest option on the market, yet its price won't stretch your budget to the limit. All in all, taking into account its numerous benefits, the mattress is definitely worth your hard earned money.
