Layla Hybrid Mattress Video Review
Mattress Construction
The Layla Hybrid's two sides offer two different firmness levels, soft and firm. This bi-polar design affects the construction of the mattress. While the cover and the support layer remain the same, the comfort and the transition layers you'll sleep on depend on which side faces up.
Cover: A plush and breathable fabric made of 66% polyester, 30% viscose and 4% lycra. The fabric is infused with a Thermogel Cooling Agent to reduce heat retention.
Support Layer: 6'' individually wrapped coils providing the mattress with support, bounciness and durability. The Twin size mattress contains 674 coils. The King and the California King sizes are supported by 1,313 and 1,259 coils respectively.
Soft Side Facing up
Comfort Layer: 2.5'' of ultra-soft (12 ILD) highly contouring memory foam infused with copper gel for enhanced pressure relief around deep compression areas.
Transition Layer: 2'' of firmer (23 ILD) poly foam to counter the soft memory foam above. Using SMT Technology, this foam provides 3-zone support for different areas in the body. Air channels cut into it increase its breathability and cooling capacity.
Firm Side Facing up
Comfort Layer: 1'' of ultra-soft (12 ILD) copper gel memory foam.
Transition Layer: 1.5'' of extra firm (40 ILD) poly foam strongly supporting the soft foam above preventing sleepers from sinking into the coils below. This poly foam also delivers SMT 3-zone support and is filled with channels allowing air to flow so as to cool the mattress.
Feel
The viscose in the cover fabric on both sides of the mattress will give you a smooth and soft feel. The Thermogel Cooling Agent infused in this fabric will draw heat away from your body and dry your sweat making you feel invigorated.
The soft side will give you a pleasant melting-into-the-mattress sensation as the thick comfort layer of memory foam will slowly respond to your weight cradling your body. The firmer poly foam in the transition layer and the coils below will prevent you from being completely sucked into the mattress by providing support and generating lift.
Flipping to the firm side, you'll still experience some contouring owing to the memory foam in the comfort layer, but it'll be immediately countered by the solid poly foam in the transition layer and the coils in the support layer making the mattress feel more stiff and you more stable.
Pressure Relief
The contouring memory foam in the Layla Hybrid's soft side is exactly what lightweight back sleepers need to alleviate pressure, which may accumulate in their lumbar area. At the same time, the more elastic poly foam in the transition layer and the coils will keep their spine in proper alignment preventing back pain.
Average and heavyweight back sleepers will find the soft side to be insufficiently supportive. Too much sinking may lead to the accumulation of pressure points in their thoracic and lumbar spine. The robust support provided by the Layla Hybrid's firm side will enable the mattress to hold this type of sleepers much better providing them with the necessary pressure relief.
The mattress' soft side will highly appeal to lightweight side sleepers. These sleepers tend to suffer from pressure in their shoulders and hips. The thick memory foam will perfectly mold to these problematic areas in their body relieving excessive pressure.
Side sleepers who weigh more than 150 pounds and especially those whose weight exceeds 250 pounds require a much more solid mattress. The memory foam in the Layla Hybrid's firm side will give them a cozy feel. At the same time, the hardened poly foam in the transition layer will target specific sensitive areas in their body (the hips and shoulders in particular) through its SMT 3-zone support. The coils will augment this support.
The Layla Hybrid's soft side is highly suitable for stomach sleepers who weigh up to 150 pounds. The ample memory foam in the comfort layer will hug their abdomen and reduce pressure in their lower back. The coils will provide them with adequate support to curb sagging.
Average size and XL stomach sleepers require more robust support compared to what the Layla's soft side can give them. The firm side with its hardened poly foam and steel coils will do a good job keeping these sleepers stable during sleep by minimizing sinking.
Motion Isolation
The Layla Hybrid isolates motion well. The memory foam in its comfort layer absorbs most of the kinetic energy generated by sleepers' movements. Moreover, since its coils are individually wrapped, they individually respond to pressure created when they're compressed. As a result, their motion transfer is minimal.
The memory foam-based comfort layer in the firm side is thinner and the poly foam in the transition layer is much denser, so motion is less effectively isolated. It means that you may feel your partner's larger movements, such as getting out of bed, but apart from that, you'll enjoy peaceful and quiet nights.
Repositioning
The sinkage created by sleeping on the Layla Hybrid's memory foam hinders movement. However, the coils in the support layer counter this sinkage by giving the mattress lift and bounciness.
All in all, moving on the surface of the mattress is not that difficult especially for light and average weight sleepers. XL sleepers will enjoy greater ease of movement on the less contouring and more supportive firm side of the mattress.
Edge Support
The Layla Hybrid has lower gauge coils on its perimeter. These more robust coils increase its capacity to support sleepers on its edges. These sleepers won't experience sagging and so will be able to utilize the entire surface of the mattress instead of moving to the center.
The extra-hard poly foam on the firm side further reinforces the Layla Hybrid's edges making them stable enough for plus-size sleepers.
Heat Retention
Mattresses containing memory foam are more prone to retain heat and the Layla Hybrid isn't different in this regard. However, the mattress is capable of effectively dissipating the heat it retains thanks to the special materials it's made of.
The polyester in the cover is lightweight and breathable. The viscose absorbs water vapors enabling moisture wicking. The Thermogel Cooling Agent prevents body heat from being trapped on the surface of the mattress keeping it cool to the touch.
Equally important, the copper gel in the memory foam is made of tiny beads which interact with one another transferring heat away from sleepers' body and dispersing it throughout the mattress.Lastly, the coils enable free flow of air, which aids in moisture wicking.
To make a long story short, the Layla Hybrid will keep sleepers cool at night. Heavyweight people, who tend to sleep hot, should sleep on the firm side. It contains less memory foam and, therefore, retains less heat.
Frame & Foundation
The Layla Hybrid works well with most types of foundations and bed frames including box springs and slat beds (the slats mustn't be more than 4'' apart).
Layla manufactures its own foundations and frames. The Layla Mattress Foundation starts at a price of $274 for a Twin size mattress. The highest price is $399 for a California King mattress. This foundation is sold with a 120-night trial and a 5-year warranty.
The Layla Platform Bed is a standalone piece sold at $374 for a Twin mattress. Maximum price stands at $524 for a California King mattress. Similar to the Layla Mattress Foundation, customers get a 120-night trial and a 5-year warranty.

The Layla Hybrid is also compatible with adjustable bases. The Layla Adjustable Base can support up to 750 pounds. It has a wireless remote control and built-in USB phone charges. You can sleep with 3 preset positions, which can be saved. The upgraded Plus model also has a WiFi application, a Wall Gliding technology, an anti-snore mode and under bed lighting. Both models are manufactured in China. They're offered with a 30-night trial and a 10-year warranty.
The prices of the Layla Adjustable Base, the regular and the Plus models, are $899 and $1,399 respectively for a Twin XL mattress (there is no base for a Twin mattress). A base for a King mattress costs $1,798 and $2,798 respectively.

Our Mattress Reviewer's Comment
This Layla Hybrid mattress was gifted to a real family, in return for photos, videos, and a personal account. You have seen the media, and now here is how they experienced the mattress, in their own words:
The mattress was delivered in a duffle bag like packaging with shoulder straps, which is great for lifting or moving, although the king size was too heavy for one person to lift.
The mattress is double sided, but we tried only the firm side which is very comfortable, and after over a month it didn't get any softer! It absorbs movement very well, so you won't feel your partner moving. The only draw back is that the edges are very soft, which makes sitting on the edge somewhat uncomfortable.
