Nectar Premier Mattress Review

Last updated December 15, 2024

The Nectar Premier is a fully foam mattress that defies many expectations about foam mattresses. Its support, motion isolation and heat wicking are all superior to those of normal foam mattresses — even the best ones in the market. It's incredibly plush, luxurious and soft to the touch, while maintaining enough support and responsiveness to hug you but not totally envelop your body, giving its sleepers a comfy, sinking feeling that's not overbearing.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Lifetime warranty
  • Sleeps cool
  • Good edge support
  • Excellent motion isolation

Cons

  • Too hugging for most stomach sleepers
  • Not supportive enough for big individuals

Mattress Construction

Like the Nectar Memory Foam, the Nectar Premier mattress consists of three layers of memory foam that provide a soft, sinking feeling that slightly hug you and give your body great support while you sleep.

Nectar Premier layers

Top Cover Layer: The top cover is a soft quilt made out of breathable poly-blend memory foam and features heat wicking technology via polyethylene fibers. It's soft, stretchy, cool to the touch, and machine washable.

Layer 1: A moderately responsive memory foam layer that quickly reforms to fit your shape. This 3" layer of gel-infused foam also reacts to your rising and dropping body temperatures, adjusting to your temperature as you sleep to keep your body cool.

Layer 2: A transitionary 3" layer of moderately soft pliable foam. Gives your body support and keeps you from reaching and feeling the dense base (third) layer. Greatly increases the mattress' body contouring capacity, which increases its lumbar support.

Layer 3: The third layer is made out of a high-density polyurethan foam. These 7 Inches of concentrated foam provide the mattress with its shape, stability and durability. The bottom layer is both thick and large enough to support the mattress and its sleepers.

Bottom Cover Layer: This shift-resistant lower cover isn't felt by you, and its purpose is to mainly protect the underside of the mattress and help it stay in place, no matter how much you jump or move about on it.

Feel

The Nectar Premier is on the very edge of medium-soft, and gives you more of a sinking, hugging feeling than a "floating on top of the mattress" feeling, though it doesn't fully conform to your shape. It is fairly responsive, but not at all bouncy, so if you have kids they may be disappointed by not being able to bounce on top of it.

The mattress itself has a very plush and soft feel, and is a treat to touch and lay on. If you're heavy, you'll sink a bit more into the mattress, and, while that's not a problem per se, it could be if you don't like to be cradled by your bed. This is also an issue for stomach sleepers, who are advised to search for a firmer mattress, like the Leesa Original.

Pressure Relief

This mattress' pressure relief qualities are exceptional for a foam mattress, though very heavy or curvy people may experience a slight dipping and arching that could negatively effect this, since the base layer doesn't offer much in the way of pressure relief. Anyone under 250 lb. shouldn't encounter such issues.

Motion Isolation

The Nectar Premier's motion isolation qualities are fantastic, making this mattress highly suited for anyone who sleeps next to a restless partner.

Repositioning

For a foam mattress, the ease of repositioning on the Nectar Premier is surprisingly good, especially considering how non-bouncy it is. The foam of this mattress is quite responsive, giving you no issue moving about during the night or getting out of bed in the morning. This is also great for nighttime  activities, since moving on top of this mattress is almost effortless.

Edge Support

Foam mattresses usually lack good good edge support, but the Nectar Premier surprises yet again by featuring good support around its perimeter. You will be fully supported by the mattress even if you sleep on the very edge of it, and you won't feel like you're falling off even if you sit at the edge of it.

Heat Retention

Nectar mattresses are known for having better-than-standard heat wicking than most foam mattresses, and the Premier improves upon the Nectar Original by featuring extra polyethylene fibers in its cover and phase-change material in its first layer, both of which keep the mattress cooler while you sleep on it.

Frame & Foundation

The Nectar Premier is designed to fit on most foundations available out there, including adjustable ones. If you don't already own a base, you can purchase one made of solid pine with your mattress purchase for $400. If you prefer an adjustable base, you can purchase one for $999. It features reclining head and feet portions, as well as a massaging capabilities and even USB plugs for easy charging.

While the Nectar Premier is fully intended to be used on an adjustable foundation, it starts off a bit too rigid for it. That quickly changes over time as the mattress becomes softer with use.

Additional Details

The Nectar Premier mattress is made in China almost entirely out of polyurethane foam, which is petroleum based, and does off-gas a bit. This is mitigated by letting it unfold and decompress in a well ventilated area for a day.

All foams used by Nectar meet CertiPUR-US standards for content, emissions, and durability, and are analyzed by independent, accredited testing laboratories, so you can be sure that none of them are harmful.

Shipping & Delivery

Nectar offers free mattress delivery directly to your doorstep, though only if you live in the contiguous United States (not including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, etc.). Nectar also ships to Alaska and Hawaii for an additional $150 per large item ordered (this is non-refundable). Moving the mattress to its final location (such as your bedroom) is, however, up to you, and will likely require an extra pair of hands.

You can also opt for Nectar’s White Glove Delivery, in which they deliver your mattress, set it up in your bedroom, and take away your old mattress if you request them to. This service costs $149, and is completely optional.

Once it's delivered, the Nectar Premier needs to be unpacked and unrolled. It will slowly take shape and will be ready to use within 24 hours. You are advised to let it do so in a well-ventilated space, as its off-gassing smell can be unpleasant to some.

Returns & Warranty

All Nectar mattresses come with a 365 night trial, and that includes the Premier. You can return the mattresses for a full refund within this time as long as you've used it for at least 30 days (Nectar's way of making sure you gave their product a fair shot). This, however, comes with a few terms and conditions.

For example, fees for shipping or white glove services are not refunded, and neither are state-based recycling fees. Refunds will always be issued in the form of the original payment. If any coupon codes were used they will not be refunded. If you purchased any additional products, such as sheets or a foundation, those need to be returned separately and according to their own return policy (which are thankfully as generous as Nectar's mattress return policy).

As for warranty, all Nectar mattresses come with a lifetime warranty, which, again, includes the premier. If the mattress ever naturally develops a sag or a visible impression deeper than an inch and a half, you can return the mattress and receive a replacement mattress. You may also return it if there is any manufacturing issue with it, or if the mattress becomes generally worn down over time, as long as it occurred naturally with use. If the mattress is under warranty then the first replacement is of absolutely no cost to you. However, after the first replacement, you will be requested to pay $100 for shipping and handling fees.

The lifetime warranty does not, however, cover what Nectar considers to be misuse or neglect. Examples being: burns, spills, stains, or violation of instruction of proper use of the mattress.

An Up-Close Look at The Nectar Bedding

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a moderately priced mattress that is soft, plush, cool to the touch, and suits back and side sleepers, then the nectar Premier is most likely a great fit for you. It has a mild sinking feeling that a lot of people prefer while still being easy to move around on. it also features excellent motion isolation, so it's a great choice for people who don't just use their bed for sleeping.

These, on top of the fact that Nectar mattresses all come with a lifetime warranty, explain why Nectar became so popular so quickly over recent years. Coupled with Nectar's generous return policy, the Premier is a safe choice for anyone who wants to experience it.

FAQ

How long is a Nectar mattress good for?

The Nectar Premier and all other memory foam mattresses manufactured by Nectar should last you for roughly 7 years. This, of course, varies depending on the number of people using the bed, the total body weight of sleepers, and their ability to keep it in good condition.

It is possible to use a box spring with Nectar mattresses. You may also use a slatted bed frame, the floor or whatever else you prefer. The Nectar Premier is suited for most foundations normally available.

Does the Nectar Premier get softer with use?

Yes, all memory foam mattresses become softer with time. In order to slow down that process you can rotate your mattress 180 degrees every 3 - 6 months to extend the lifetime of the mattress.

Where can I purchase the Nectar Premier?

The best way to get your hands on a Nectar mattress is to order it from the online Nectar store (link above) and have it sent directly to your doorstep.

How long does shipping take with Nectar?

The mattress is shipped within 14 - 21 business days with no contact delivery (all items are safely sealed in plastic).

How easy is it to set up the Nectar Premier mattress?

All you need to do is unpack, unroll and wait 24 hours. You're suggested to let it take form in an open room so it can off-gas.

How long is the warranty with Nectar?

Nectar offers an amazing lifetime warranty on their mattresses. Once you buy a mattress with Nectar, you can use it for the rest of your life.

How can I try out a Nectar mattress?
