Nectar memory foam mattress review

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Lifetime warranty
  • Excellent motion isolation
  • Sleeps cooler than most memory foam mattresses
  • Great value for money

Cons

  • A tad too hugging for most stomach sleepers
  • Not supportive enough for heavy individuals

Mattress Construction

The Nectar Memory Foam mattress is comprised of several layers of memory foam of varying density, and is manufactured to provide a soft, sinking feeling while dispersing and dissipating your body heat.

The different foam layers of the Nectar Original mattress

Top Cover Layer: The top cover is a soft quilt made out of breathable poly-blend memory foam and features heat wicking cooling technology.

Layer 1: The top layer is a blend of memory foam and gel. It is extremely soft, yet very responsive, and provides a soothing, sinking feeling. The gel helps reduce heat retention, which is a common issue with memory foam mattresses. The top layer is also responsible for some light body contouring around the hips and shoulders, which helps side sleepers get more spinal support.

Layer 2: The second layer is made out of soft foam to increase the body contouring, and, by doing so, increasing the mattresse's pressure relief qualities. The second layer also serves as a transitional layer between the softer upper layer and the high density bottom layer.

Layer 3: The third layer is made out of a high-density poly foam. This concentrated foam provides the mattress shape, stability and durability. The bottom layer is both thick and large enough to support the mattress and its sleeper/s.

Bottom Cover Layer: This shift-resistant lower cover helps your mattress stay in place, no matter how much you jump or move about on it.

Feel

The Nectar Memory Foam is on the very edge of medium-firm, but is regarded to be a medium firmness mattress able to support most side and back sleepers comfortably, and even some lighter stomach sleepers. You do get a sinking feeling when laying on this mattress, and it does conform to your curves, but it's not a real plush feel. It has more of a general softness to it that feels quite hugging without feeling completely cradling.

You also feel the sinking feeling of the memory foam, especially if your heavy, but not so much as to make the mattress feel like a hole you can't seem to get out of. The mattress isn't very bouncy, but the foam is very responsive, and returns to its original shape quickly after pressure is lifted.

Pressure Relief

The Nectar Memory Foam's pressure relief qualities are great, but are not perfect for very heavy or curvy people. Lower layers don't have much pressure relief, and heavy/curvy individuals will sink into them through the top layer and thus have suboptimal spinal alignment.

Motion Isolation

The mattress' motion isolation qualities are, in a word, exceptional. This mattress is highly suited for people who sleep next to light-sleeping partners, as they will barely feel you budge throughout the night no matter what you do.

Repositioning

For a foam mattress, the ease of repositioning on the Nectar Memory Foam is surprisingly good. The foam of this mattress is very responsive, so, while you won't be easily bouncing off of this mattress, you will have no issue moving about during the night or getting out of bed in the morning. This is also great for non-sleep related activities, since moving on top of this mattress is fairly effortless.

Edge Support

Usually, foam mattresses don't have good edge support, but this is different for the Nectar Memory Foam. You will be fully supported by the mattress even if you lay on the very edge of it.

Heat Retention

Even though memory foam mattresses usually retain a lot of heat, the Nectar Memory Foam is infused with cooling gel and built with cooling technologies, making the mattress great at dissipating your body heat throughout the night.

It's not the best in this regard, as it still doesn't have the qualities of a spring mattress which is basically filled with air and is perfect for those who sleep hot, but it's still going to retain only a minimal amount of your body heat.

Frame & Foundation

The Nectar Memory Foam is base-agnostic, and will fit on most foundations out there — even adjustable ones. If you don't have one, you can purchase a solid pine foundation with your mattress for $400, or an adjustable base for $999 that features reclining head and feet portions, as well as a massaging capabilities and even USB plugs for easy charging.

Do note that, while this mattress is fully compatible with adjustable bases, it starts off a bit too rigid for one. That quickly changes as the mattress is broken in.

Additional Details

This mattress is made in China entirely of polyurethane foam, which is petroleum based, and does off-gas a bit. However, every material used in the mattress is certified to the CertiPUR standard, so you can rest assured that the mattress is not harmful in any way.

Shipping & Delivery

Nectar offers free delivery to your doorstep. Moving it to its final location is your responsibility, and it will likely require an extra pair of hands to help move it.

You can also opt for Nectar’s White Glove Delivery: they will deliver your mattress, set it up in your bedroom, and take away your old mattress if you request them too. This service costs $149, and is completely optional.

Once it's delivered, it needs to be unpacked and unrolled. It will slowly take shape and will be ready to use within 24 hours.

Returns & Warranty

All Nectar mattresses come with a 365 night trial. From the moment the order is made until 365 days after, sleepers can return their mattresses for a full refund. This however does come with its own terms and conditions.

For example, fees for shipping or white glove services are not refunded, neither are state-based recycling fees. Refunds will always be issued in the form of original payment, if any coupon codes were used they will not be refunded. If any additional products were purchased, such as a mattress topper or sheets, those do not need to be returned and their absence will not deduct from the total amount refunded.

Returning a mattress can only be done after using the mattress for a minimum of 30 days. Nectar suggests this because it takes about 30 days until the mattress breaks in properly, and your body gets sufficiently used to it.

As for warranty, all Nectar mattresses come with a lifetime warranty. If it ever develops a sag or a visible impression deeper than an inch and a half, you can return the mattress and receive a replacement mattress. You may also do so if there is any manufacturing issue with the mattress, or if the mattress becomes naturally worn down. If your mattress is under warranty then the first replacement is of absolutely no cost to you. However, after the first exchange, sleepers are requested to pay $100 for shipping and handling fees.

The lifetime warranty does not, however, cover what they consider as misuse, neglect, burns, spills, stains, or violation of instruction. If you're particularly messy you may want to check out the Leesa Original, as it is a similar mattress, and the Leesa warranty will protect you from your own clumsiness.

An Up-Close Look at The Nectar Bedding

The Bottom Line

Nectar is incredibly generous compared to most other online mattress companies. They hand out a lifetime warranty and charge nothing for standard delivery. Nectar also offers a $399 discount on your mattress, as well as up to $300 off any other purchase you make on their site. It's amazing what you can get there for under a grand.

On the other hand, there is little point in a life time warranty that stops functioning if you're a little bit messy or have on accident. The mattress is also not ideal for anyone weighing over 250 lbs., especially if they're side or stomach sleepers.

If, after reading this review, you find that you're among the people who this mattress is ideal for, then by all means — buy it. According to randomized surveys, around 9 out of 10 people say their Nectar mattress helped reduce overall aches, stiffness, soreness, and/or discomfort, relieve back pain, and generally provides them with sound and comfortable sleep — enough for them to actually recommend it to their friends and family. If you took the time to actually research this mattress beforehand and didn't impulse purchase it, chances are you'll be among those 9.
