Mattress Construction

The LXP is 12'' thick. It has a cotton cover and 5 layers which consist of plant fiber, organic cotton and wool and two coil systems one on top the other. The two firmness models share the same constructions. The only difference between them is the firmness of their coil systems with the medium-firm model's systems being thicker and stiffer.

The layers of the Joybed LXP

Cover: soft and breathable jacquard cotton. The cotton is hand tufted making it more durable.

Top Layer: Breathable and flame-resistant plant fiber protecting the mattress against fire without using chemicals or synthetic additives.

Comfort Layer: Two layers of organic cotton with a layer of organic wool in between. The cotton and wool are aerated, hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and cushy.

Transition Layer: High gauge yielding nano coils providing pressure relieving bounce. A twin size mattress has 780 nano coils while King and California king sizes are fitted with 1764 and 1760 coils respectively.

Support Layer: Firmer lower gauge coils generating lift and countering sinkage. The coils are divided into 7 zones delivering improved targeted support. One of the zones includes a column of reinforced coils around the mattress' perimeter for robust edge support. The coils are individually encased to reduce motion transfer.

Feel

The LXP's cotton cover is smooth and gentle to the touch. Its breathability keeps the surface of the mattress cool and dry.

Lying on both firmness models, sleepers will enjoy the cushy feel provided by the soft cotton and wool in the comfort layer. However, as fluffy and pleasant as these materials may be, they're responsive instead of being contouring, so sleepers shouldn't expect to get the cradling sensation characteristic of foam mattresses.

Joyband defines the two firmness versions of the LXP as 'medium-firm' and 'medium-plush'. Based on the scale used in the mattress industry, the medium-plush model gives a soft feel while the medium firm models gives a medium feel. This is, in fact, how sleepers are going experience these models.

Specifically speaking, the medium-plush model is more cushy. Its less firm and more flexible nano-coils and coils enable moderate sinkage which gives a more bouncy feel. The thicker coils in the medium-firm model deliver stronger support, which makes sleepers feel more stable on the mattress.

Pressure Relief

Light and average side sleepers will like the LXP's medium-plush model. The cotton and wool in the comfort layer will pad their shoulders and hips mitigating pressure. The bouncy nano-coils will further reduce pressure giving them a cozy feel. The bigger coils in the support layer will keep their back elevated enabling them to maintain a healthy sleeping position.

Heavyweight side sleepers will need a mattress which is more supportive but still cushy enough to prevent the accumulation of pressure in the sensitive areas in their body. The LXP's medium-firm model will answer these needs.

Back sleepers who weigh up to 250 pounds will feel comfortable on the LXP's medium-firm model. The soft and resilient cotton and wool in the comfort layer will cushion their back without causing excess sinkage, which may create pressure. At the same time, the nano coils will augment the effect of the comfort layer with pressure reliving bounce. Finally, the zoned support delivered by the coils in the support layer will target these sleepers' lumbar and thoracic spine keeping it properly aligned.

The LXP medium-firm model (and, of course, the medium-plush model) won't cope well enough with plus-size back sleepers. They may suffer from excess sagging, which may lead to discomfort and pain. These sleepers will need a more supportive mattress. They should try the Joybed LX

Stomach sleepers need a robust mattress capable of preventing over-sinking in their abdomen. Sleepers who weigh up to 150 pounds and some of those who weigh up to 250 pounds will get along well with the LXP medium-firm model. Being cushy and bouncy, the mattress will do a good job relieving pressure in the area below their rib cage while keeping it elevated enough to prevent their spine from being thrown out of its natural alignment.

Stomach sleeper whose weight exceeds 250 pounds will need a firmer mattress designed for XL sleepers. Such a mattress will be able to carry their massive body averting sinkage and curvature disorders in the long run.

Motion Isolation

The LXP's ability to isolate motion is below average. The lack of contouring foam, which can effectively absorb the energy generated by sleepers' movements, a comfort layer made of responsive cotton and wool and two coil systems create too much motion transfer. The individually wrapped coils in the support layer impede a bit of that motion transfer, but it's far from being enough to enable sleepers whose partners sleep restlessly to enjoy quiet and undisturbed nights.

The medium-plush model, despite being softer than the medium-firm model, doesn't isolate sleepers' movements better. With two coil systems, being softer also means being bouncier and more susceptible to motion transfer.

Repositioning

What the LXP lacks in motion isolation, it makes up for in ease of movement. The cotton and coils in the comfort layer, despite being cushy, aren't sinkable. They don't cause sleepers to be stuck in bed. Furthermore, two consecutive coil layers generate ample lift allowing sleepers to maneuver on the surface of the mattress without using too much effort.

Having said that, average weight sleepers lying on the medium-plush model may encounter difficulty repositioning themselves as the mattress won't handle their weight well. The same can be said about plus-size back and stomach sleepers lying on the medium-firm model. They'll need a more supportive mattress to be able to move easily.

Edge Support

The LXP is characterized by excellent edge support. Due to the lack of sinkable foam in its comfort layer, the extra lift provided by the nano coils and, especially, the reinforced coils along the outer edges, sleepers, even the heavier ones, will feel stable sitting or lying on the the mattress' perimeter. Being firmer, the medium-firm model is naturally more supportive around its exterior.

Heat Retention

The LXP scores high in its ability dissipate excess heat. The breathable materials it's built from — the cotton, plant fiber and wool — keep the mattress ventilated at all times and don't let moisture and temperature rise. The two layers of coils, on their part, allow air to flow freely in and out of the mattress intensifying the cooling effect. To make a long story short, the LXP is a great fit for people who sleep hot or reside in hot and humid areas.

Frame & Foundation

The LXP fits most of the foundations, frame and adjustable bases which exist on the market as long as they're firm enough to carry its weight. You shouldn't use slat beds whose slats are more than 5'' apart. Moreover, King and California King size mattresses require a foundation with strong center support. Joybed has its own platforms you can buy for your new LXP mattress.

The Joybed Frame is an affordable and easy to assemble robust steel construct built to support foundations or boxsprings. The Queen, King and California King size bed frames are further reinforced by a center support bar for extra durability. The frame is shipped in 1-2 business days for free. It comes with a 1-year warranty. It has a uniform price of $89 for all mattress sizes.

The Joybed Foundation is made of solid wood fastened together by coated steel nails. Its sizes are wrapped in organic cotton fiber. It's also covered by non-skid poly-material on top of plant fiber to make sure the bed remains immobile and well supported while minimizing noise. Buyers can choose between two heights of 6'' or 9''. The foundation is shipped in 1-2 business days at no additional cost. Sleepers are given a 120-night trial to examine the foundation and find out if it meets their needs. It's offered at a uniform price of $249 for all mattress sizes.

Lastly, you may order a topper to change the mattress' feel.

The LXP is backed by a 10-year warranty, which covers manufacturing flaws in materials or workmanship and indentations on the surface deeper than 1.5''. It doesn't cover firmness preferences of the product, bent border lines and accidental damages, such as stains or burning marks.

The warranty may be annulled if the mattress is maltreated (for example, its bent or folded and cleaned with chemical agents), placed on an a foundation which is inadequately supportive or if the law or trade label is removed.

The Bottom Line

The LXP is designed to be eco-friendly. It consists of 100% organic and natural materials with zero synthetic additives. It's a great fit for sleepers who care about the environment and who are also looking for a highly comfortable mattress characterized by ease of movement, stable edges and effective cooling. It's two firmness models of medium-plush and medium-firm will appeal to light and average weight sleepers. Heavier sleepers, on the other hand, will require a firmer mattress capable of supporting their more massive body.

The LXP, much like all other Jobed's mattresses and related bedroom products, is manufactured in the USA.

How do I set up the Joybed LXP?

The LXP will reach your front door wrapped in plastic, rolled, compressed and packed in a box. Carry the box to the room where you want the mattress to be. You may need to shake the corners to settle the coils back into position after they'd been compressed for shipping.
