Mattress Construction

The Avocado organic luxury is 13.25'' thick. It's made of 17 layers of wool, cotton, alpaca fiber, mohair, latex and steel coils for optimal comfort and support.Instead of using chemical adhesives which might harm the environment, all the layers are needle-tufted together.

The layers of the Avocago Organic Luxury Standard mattress

Cover: a fabric made of soft and breathable organic cotton.

Top Panel: 2 layers, which consist of organic wool and alpaca fiber each. The second layer is sewn on a cotton canvas.

Comfort Layer: A gusset carrying hyper-elastic 2'' Dunlop latex divided into three areas for enhanced targeted support. The latex is attached to several overlapping sub-layers of cotton, wool and mohair.

Transition Layer: Several layers made of cotton and wool on top of 2'' of Dunlop latex placed on an organic hemp pad.

Support Layer: 1,414 8'' pocketed coils divided into 5 zones providing ergonomic support for different areas in the body.

Base Layer: organic hemp pad functioning as the base of the mattress.

Feel

The Organic Luxury is bouncy and supportive. You won't sink into the mattress as it doesn't contain foam. Instead you'll get a buoyant feel provided by the large amount of latex in the comfort and transition layers and the coils in the support layer.

The multiple layers of wool, cotton and alpaca fiber give a soft and smooth silk-like sensation. These are also breathable materials, which keep the mattress pleasantly cool.

Pressure Relief

The Organic Luxury may be too firm for lightweight side sleepers, which may lead to the accumulation of pressure in the cervical and lumbar spine. On the contrary, medium and heavyweight side sleepers will like the mattress. The buoyant latex and the zoned support provided by the coil system will target their hips and shoulders (which are the most problematic areas in their body) promoting healthy posture. At the same time, the wool and cotton will counter the stiffness of the coils and create a comfortable sleep surface.

Back sleepers who weigh less than 150 pounds will find the Organic Luxury to be too firm. They'll require a cushier sleep surface to alleviate pressure in their lumbar back. By contrast, their heavier counterparts who weigh 150-250 pounds will benefit from the mattress' bouncy latex which will prevent them from over-sinking . The zoned coil system will distribute their body weight evenly helping them maintain proper spine alignment.

XL back sleepers whose weight exceeds 250 pounds will need a mattress which is more supportive than the Avocado Organic Luxury. They should opt for mattresses designed for heavier sleepers.

Lightweight stomach sleepers will have no problem sleeping on the Organic Luxury. Stomach sleepers heavier than 150 pounds will need a more robust mattress, which can better support their abdomen and lower back keeping them afloat.

Motion Isolation

Although the latex and coils in the Organic Luxury have high capacity for transferring motion, the multiple layers of cotton and wool in the mattress absorb a large portion of the kinetic energy generated by sleepers' movements. Moreover, some of the energy that does reach the coils is isolated as these coils are individually wrapped.

Practically speaking, the Organic Luxury will enable you to enjoy quiet and peaceful nights as you won't be disturbed by most of your partner's movements including the more intense ones.

Repositioning

Sleepers won't have a problem moving on the surface of the Avocado Organic Luxury and changing sleep positions. The cotton, wool and mohair are springy. The elastic latex is highly responsive to body weight and provides the mattress with bounciness. The coils generate lift which prevents sleepers from over-sinking.

Edge Support

The Organic Luxury's coil system strengthens the perimeter making it relatively firm. However, due to the large amount of soft materials in the mattress (the cotton, wool, alpaca fiber, mohair and silk), plus-size sleepers may experience some sagging on the edges and so will tend to move towards the more stable center. As mentioned above, heavyweight people, especially those who sleep on their back and stomach, may require a firmer mattress.

Heat Retention

The Avocado Organic Luxury is a good choice for hot sleepers. The cotton, wool, mohair and alpaca fiber it's made of are highly breathable and effectively wick away moisture. What is more, thanks to the perforated structure of the latex and the coils, air can easily flow in and out of the mattress significantly reducing heat retention.

Frame & Foundation

The Avocado Organic Luxury is compatible with most types of foundations, bed frames and adjustable bases available on the market as long as they're firm enough to support its weight. Avocado has its own manufactured platforms constructed from high quality sustainable materials.

The Malibu Platform Bed Frame is made of a harvested maple or walnut tree. It has round corners, which protect against collisions. This bed frame comes with an optional 41'' or 46'' headboard. The 46'' is ideal for the thicker Plush model of the Organic Luxury mattress. You can choose between 6'' or 8'' legs. Prices range from $1,099 for a Twin mattress (no headboard) to $2,599 for a California King ( with a 46'' headboard).

The Eco Adjustable Base has preset and customized comfort positions and three variations of upper and lower stress reducing body massage. It's activated with a remote control or a smartphone app. Stating price is $949 for a Twin XL mattress. Maximum price is $1,789 for a Split King mattress (2 units). The Eco Plus Adjustable Base includes all the benefits of the Eco Adjustable Base plus extra positions, such as anti-snore, and under the bed LED lighting. A base for a Twin XL mattress is offered at $1,899. The highest price is $3,789 for a Split King mattress (2 units). This base comes with a 20-year warranty.

The Eco Pro Adjustable Base is Avocado's most advanced adjustable bed frame. It's a two-piece design operated by silent engines sliding into preset or customizable positions. For a Twin XL mattress, you'll pay $3,298. Maximum price for a Split King mattress with a headboard is $5,497. The Eco Pro Adjustable Base is backed by a 20-year warranty.

The Organic Luxury is delivered to its destination in up to 7 days. Unlike all other Avocado's mattresses, it's not shipped compressed in a box. A delivery team will bring it to your home, carry it to your designated room and will even remove your old mattress. This white glove delivery is offered at no additional cost.

Shipping to the continental USA is done via FedEx and it comes with an additional fee of $99-$198 per order for items of up to 150 pounds. Heavier mattresses cannot be shipped by FedEx and they demand an extra shipping fee of $249+ depending on weight. Customers in Hawaii and Alaska will have to pay an additional fee which amounts to 15% of the mattress' price to cover shipping costs. Avocado currently doesn't ship to Canada.

Returns and Warranty

The Luxury Organic comes with an extended 365-night trial and a break in period of 30 nights. That is to say, you can return your mattress and get a full refund 30 nights after you received it and no later than 365 nights. Returned mattresses are donated to charity.

The mattress is backed by a 25-year partially prorated warranty. During the first 10 years, Avocado will repair or replace your mattress at its own expense. From the 11th year onwards, you'll pay for shipping costs (in case the mattress is replaced) in addition to a growing percentage of the original mattress price starting with 50% and rising by 5% every year in the next 9 years up to a maximum of 95%.

The warranty extends only to the original purchaser and it covers impressions deeper than 1.5" and 2" on the surface of the Standard and Plush models respectively, cracks in the latex, size variations greater than 2'' and manufacturing defects including fabric tearing or stitching unraveling.

The warranty doesn't cover natural wear-and-tear and accidental damage such as burning marks or stains. It becomes void if the mattress is maltreated or placed on an improper foundation. A proper foundation must have no less of four legs for a Twin, XL Twin or Full size mattress and five to six legs for a Queen, King and California King mattress. If you're using a slat bed, the slats must be at least 2.5'' thick and no more than 5'' apart.
