Mattress Construction
The Island is built from a cotton cover fabric, three consecutive layers of different types of foam and a system of pocketed steel coils beneath them. The mattress is available in 10'' and 12'' versions. Both versions share the same construction and the same characteristics.
Cover: Plush and highly breathable cotton knit fabric effectively wicking moisture away.
Layer 1: Ventilated medium-high density poly foam supporting sleepers and curbing sinking.
Layer 2: Gel-infused memory foam cushioning the body and countering the stiffness of the hardened poly foam above. The gel disperses heat across the mattress assisting in regulating temperature.
Layer 3: Highly dense and responsive poly foam separating the coils below from the soft foam above, increasing sleepers stability and adding durability to the mattress.
Layer 4: Individually wrapped coils generating bounce and lift.
Feel
The Island's soft and breathable cotton cover gives a smooth and cushy feel and keeps the surface of the mattress cool and dry even after long hours of sleep.
The medium-high density foam in the first layer induces an initial sense of support and stability. The memory foam in the layer below responds slowly to body weight and, therefore, allows sleepers moderate sinkage, which provides contouring and enhances comfort. The high density foam in the third layer and the coils at the bottom layer generate lift keeping that sinkage at bay and preventing sleepers from being stuck in the mattress.
Pressure Relief
Side sleepers need a cushy mattress, which will wrap their hips and shoulder and mitigate pressure in these sensitive areas. The medium-high density poly foam in the Island's first layer will fail to do that rendering the mattress too stiff and insufficiently comfortable for sleepers weighing less than 250 pounds.
In contrast, side sleepers whose weight exceeds 250 pounds will highly benefit from the Island's medium-high and high density foam layers which will effectively support their weight reducing sagging. The bouncy coils together with the body-conforming foam in the second layer will prevent the accumulation of pressure in the areas where their body meets the mattress.
Lightweight back sleepers will find the Island to be too firm. It won't provide them with the contouring necessary for alleviating pressure in their lumbar and thoracic spine.
By comparison, their average and even heavyweight counterparts will benefit from a sound balance of contouring and support. In other words, the Island will mold to their body while keeping them 'on' the mattress instead of 'in' it and, therefore, enable them to maintain a healthy sleeping position.
Light and average weight stomach sleepers require a mattress with a dual function, that is, a mattress which can mitigate pressure in their abdomen area and at the same time can prevent that area from sinking too much. The Island's sandwich structure of medium-high density foam in the first layer, highly dense foam in the third layer and cushy memory foam in between will perform this function well.
Some heavyweight stomach sleepers will get the support they need from the Island, mainly thanks to the high-density foam in the third layer working in tandem with the coils in the fourth layer. However, most of these sleepers will discover that the mattress isn't firm enough to carry their weight and prevent pressure from accumulating in their abdomen and lumber back as a result of over-sinking. They'll require a firmer mattress designed for plus-size people.
Motion Isolation
The Island scores only just little above the average in its ability to isolate motion. Its two layers of medium-high density and highly dense foam are limited in their ability to absorb the energy generated by sleepers' movement. In addition, the coils will transfer some of that energy to other parts of the mattress.
On the bright side, the contouring memory foam in the second layer functions as a shock absorber which reduces motion. The coils, being individually wrapped, have lower capacity for transferring motion compared to traditional innerspring systems.
Making a long story short, the Island is capable of isolating movements of low and moderate intensity, which should be enough for most people unless their partners are restless sleepers.
Repositioning
What the Island lacks in motion isolation it makes up for in ease of movement. The fact that its first layer is made of medium density foam and not of soft and sinkable memory foam (as is the case with most hybrid foam and coils mattresses) makes it very easy for sleepers to maneuver on its surface. Moreover, the responsive dense foam in the third layer and the bouncy coils in the bottom layer also play an important role in enabling free and almost unrestricted movement even for heavier sleepers.
Edge Support
Choosing medium-high density poly foam and not malleable memory foam as the top layer, the Island's designers significantly reinforced the mattress' exterior. Added to that the highly dense poly foam in the third layer and the coils below, sleepers will experience minimum sagging and will feel highly stable upon lying close to the edge. This will enable them to utilize the entire sleep surface of the mattress with no need to move to center.
Heat Retention
The materials the Island is made of are designed to reduce heat retention. The breathable cotton knit cover and the ventilated medium-high density poly foam provide excellent sweat-wicking keeping sleepers body dry, especially in humid areas. The gel memory foam in the second layer disperses heat across the mattress preventing the accumulation of hot spots. Finally, the coils enable free flow of air in and out of the mattress augmenting the cooling effect.
Frame & Foundation
The Island goes well with most of the foundations, frames and adjustable bases which can be purchased on the market as long as they're solid enough to support its weight. SweetNight puts at its customers' disposal its own Tranquil Frame.
The Tranquil is an adjustable base constructed from solid wood and aluminum. It has 3 adjustment modes (with independent head incline of up to 60° and foot incline of up to 40°) and 3 preset positions, including TV, zero-gravity and memory. The base comes with a retainer bar, sensors on both sides, one side pocket, dual USB charging ports on both sides and LED lights under the bed.
The Tranquil can carry up to 705 pounds. Its minimum and maximum prices are $647 for a Full size mattress and $1,088 for a Split King mattress. It's sold with a 100-night trial and a 10-year warranty.

The mattress is backed by a 10-year limited warranty. The warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials, indentations on the surface greater than 1.5'' and physical flaws, among which are splitting or cracking of the foam despite proper usage and handling.
The warranty doesn't cover the increase of softness of the foam resulting from natural wear-and-tear, and accidental damage including spills, stains, tears and burning marks. The warranty will become void if the mattress is repaired by an unauthorized provider or personnel or disassembled by the purchaser and if the warranty card or purchasing invoice has been changed.

The mattress delivers enhanced support side by side with pressure relieving contouring, which makes it fit almost all types of average and heavyweight sleepers. Its construction and the materials it's built from enable easy movement on its surface and provide good edge support and effective temperature regulation. Equally important, the mattress is sold at a budget-friendly price.
