The Saatva Loom & Leaf Mattress Review
The Saatva Loom & Leaf is a memory foam mattress that caters to most sleepers — especially those who are looking for a bed that supports all sleeping positions and body types. On top of this, Saatva made sure to minimize the shortfalls of foam mattresses with this one, and succeeded in making a bed with a lot of upsides and very few downsides.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Fits most sleepers and sleeping positions
- Fantastic motion isolation
- Excellent pressure relief
- Hypoallergenic and antimicrobial
Cons
- Expensive
- Mediocre edge support
- Not the best for those who sleep hot
Mattress Construction
The Saatva Loom & Leaf mattress is made up of 3 layers of CertiPUR-US certified foams along with a quilted cotton cover.
Cover layer: A quilted cover top made of organic cotton that's soft, breathable and hypoallergenic. This layer is treated with Saatva's trademarked Guardian antimicrobial treatment, and is quilted with two layers of plush comfort foams and a nontoxic and natural flame retardant.
First layer: A layer of convoluted gel-infused foam that features exceptional heat-wicking and spinal support and is chiefly responsible for the feel and comfort of the mattress.
Second layer: A layer of premium high-density memory foam. Mainly used as a transition layer between the softer first layer and the firmer base layer.
Base layer: A high-density foam base gives the mattress the durability and stability it needs for you to get a comfortable and supportive good night's sleep.
Feel
Both comfort levels of the Loom & Leaf mattress are responsive yet not very bouncy and have a medium cushioning depth. That means that you'll feel partly like you're sleeping on top of this mattress, and partly like you're sleeping in it. As for its firmness, it will either have a medium-firm feel if you purchase the "Firm" version, or a medium feel if you purchase the "Relaxed Firm" version.
Pressure Relief
The pressure relief qualities of the Saatva Loom & Leaf are excellent, especially on the Relaxed Firm version of the mattress. Side sleepers will appreciate the pressure point relief of this version, as they'll feel little to no pressure on their joints. The pressure relief qualities of the Firm version aren't as good, and so the mattress will better suit those who tend to sleep on their back or front.
Motion Isolation
The Saatva Loom & Leaf has fantastic motion isolation. If you sleep next to a restless partner, or you are yourself a restless sleeper, this mattress will do wonders for your relationship.
Repositioning
Repositioning on the Saatva Loom & Leaf is easy — surprisingly so for a mattress that has such thick top layers of memory foam. A lot of this is due to the tight and responsive cover layer of quilted cotton. That being said, the Loom & Leaf doesn't really compare to an innerspring mattress in this department, so if you specifically want a mattress that's easy to get out of or that's specialized for intercourse, then you should try out the Saatva Latex Hybrid instead.
Edge Support
While the Saatva Loom & Leaf scores high in terms of edge support when compared to other memory foam mattresses, you shouldn't get a memory foam mattress in general if this is a concern for you. You're not going to easily fall off this mattress if you sleep on its edge, but it will bow considerably if you do so, and will thus be less comfortable and supportive.
Heat Retention
Generally speaking, if you tend to sleep hot, and this is a problem for you, memory foam mattresses may not be the right fir for you. With that being said, though, the Saatva Loom & Leaf features several things that mitigate heat retention, like infusing breathable gel into the foams of the mattress and even between them.
Frame & Foundation
The Loom & Leaf compatible with most foundations, box springs, platform beds, and adjustable bases, so if you already own such a thing and are looking to simply replace your mattress, you can place your new Saatva mattress on your old foundation.
But, if you want to purchase a new foundation to go along with your new premium mattress, you can do so on the Saatva online store. The standard Saatva foundation costs $200-$418 (depending on the size of the mattress). The foundation is a wood slat designed to look seamless with your Saatva mattress. It comes in two height options (either 4.75″ or 8.75″) so you can better adjust it to your needs. You can add to that a metal frame for $119 that will lift your bed setup 7.5" off the ground, giving you more storage room beneath the bed.
You can also purchase a designer foundation and frame from the Saatva store. This is mainly for decorative purposes, but they are nevertheless incredibly well made and luxurious, and can add a lot to the aesthetic of your room. There are around a dozen to choose from, each one with their own style and price tag, so check the online store if you're in the market for such a thing.
Lastly, you can also purchase Saatva's Lineal Adjustable Bed Base for $1,119. This adjustable foundation will allow you to elevate the bed's head and feet sections, and includes full-body massage capabilities along with underbed illumination.
Additional Details
Saatva usually offers up to $450 in discounts, but that goes up with the size of the purchase. At minimum, you'll receive a $200 discount if you go with the cheapest option. The official Saatva website also offers holiday discounts and even an 18-month payment plan, so you can get your own luxury Saatva Loom & Leaf mattress even if money is tight at the moment.
In addition to this, Saatva offers a $225 discount off orders of $1,000 or more to active military, veterans, first responders, and teachers. To apply for the discount, you'll need to click on the "Discount for Military, First Responders, and Teachers" box at checkout when purchasing the mattress. You'll then be prompted to register with ID.me to verify your status and receive the discount.
Shipping & Delivery
The Saatva Loom & Leaf mattress is built to order before being hand delivered to your bedroom, where delivery professionals will set it up for you if you so request. If you have an older bed you want to get rid off, the delivery professionals can do that for you at no additional cost.
If the mattress can't fit up your staircase, Saatva will exchange it for one that will, or take it back and issue a refund with only a $99 charge that covers the cost of labor and gas for the delivery.
Unlike other online mattress companies, Saatva doesn't sell compressed mattresses. Since a Saatva mattress isn't a bed-in-a-box, there will be no need to wait for the Loom & Leaf mattress to decompress or off-gas, so you can use it immediately upon its arrival.
The mattress takes about 3 weeks to arrive from the date of purchase due to the custom nature of each order. You will get a call from the delivery company the day before your chosen delivery date. You won’t be charged a fee if you cancel the order during this call. The mattress can be shipped anywhere within the contiguous United States for free. If you live in Hawaii or Alaska, you can contact Saatva's help center at 877-672-2882 for help scheduling a special delivery through a freight forwarder in Seattle or California. Saatva has unfortunately stopped all deliveries across the border to Canada due to the damage the Covid-19 pandemic has done to its supply chain.
Returns & Warranty
Once you purchase the Loom & Leaf, you can try it out for 180 nights. If you don't like it and you decide to replace it before the end of that period, you may do so for only $99. This is a labor and transport fee, as Saatva delivery professionals will come and pick up the mattress from your bedroom for you.
Saatva offers a 15-year warranty for its Loom & Leaf mattress. If the mattress is deemed defective and returned within the first 2 years after purchase, it will be replaced with a brand new one. If it is returned after this time, it will instead be repaired for $198. This covers the total cost of shipment both ways.
There is an additional warranty option, called the "Fairness Replacement Option". You will be sent a mattress of the same model for a fraction of how much the old one cost you, based on the age of the mattress: 40% of what you paid if the mattress was purchased 3-5 years ago, 60% of what you paid if the mattress was purchased 5-10 years ago, or 80% of what you paid if the mattress was purchased 11-15 years ago. You will also be charged $99 for shipping, and you'll be able to keep the old mattress. This option is only available once per customer.
A warranty by Saatva is only valid to the original purchaser, and will be voided if the mattress is misused or neglected, such as if the mattress was regularly used without a foundation or is damaged from burns or spills.
The Bottom Line
Saatva went to great lengths to create a foam mattress with all of the strengths and nearly none of the weaknesses of one, and succeeded. If you're looking for a premium foam mattress for the long run, the Saatva Loom & Leaf is a great choice. This is especially true if the usual issues of foam mattresses, such as poor heat wicking or edge support, are a problem for you. Unlike most other foam mattresses, the Saatva Loom & Leaf is designed with these issues in mind.

The Saatva Loom & Leaf is compatible with standard foundation and adjustable bases. If you lack a suitable foundation, you can get one from the Saatva store along with the mattress.

Saatva mattresses aren't compressed and don't come in a box. They therefore don't need to decompress or off-gas.
