Mattress Construction

The Saatva Classic is known as one of the most popular online mattresses sold today. It offers a hybrid of traditional inner springs and poly foam technology to deliver an outstanding sleeping experience. The Saatva Classic mattress comes in three firmness levels, along with two height options: 11.5 Inches and 14.5 Inches, so you can adjust every part of the mattress to your needs and liking.

The Saatva Classic is made with an assortment of materials spaced out over four layers to ensure maximum comfort whilst applying ultimate support. There are steel spring coils at the bottom that give the bed bounciness and support. In the layer above that, another set of springs to transition between the large steel ones and the contouring memory foam that can be found above a second set of coils.

Cover Layer: The cover of the Classic is made out of an organic cotton fabric. The cover provides antimicrobial treatment and is fabulously soft.

Layer 1: Under the cover there is a 3 inch layer of Euro pillow top, this is also known as the comfort layer of the mattress. A Euro pillow top (also called a Euro top) has the padding underneath the top cover and is flush with the mattress edges, so it doesn't look like an extra layer sitting on top of the mattress. In addition to creating a cleaner look, a Euro pillow top is stitched underneath the cover, and so can't shift or lose shape the way a conventional pillow top can. Euro top fillings also tend to be denser than their standard counterparts, making them somewhat more durable as well.

Layer 2: Underneath the comfort layer we have the support layer, which is made out of little individually wrapped pocket coils. The coils give the mattress its bounce and breathability, and also helps transition from the zoned structure. Their individual covering greatly helps reduce noise and increase comfort.

Layer 3: This layer is also known as the zoned support layer. It is made out of memory foam and helps allow contouring around shoulders and hips for back pain relief. This layer is made entirely out of memory foam.

Layer 4: The foundation layer is a combination of both steel spring coils and poly-foam. The springs are designed to have extra edge support making the bed feel larger overall.

The Saatva Classic is crafted with the highest quality materials, including antimicrobial organic cotton, CertiPUR-US certified foams (made without ozone depleters, harmful materials) and mostly made of eco-friendly components.

Feel

As previously mentioned, the Saatva Classic mattress comes in three firmness levels:

• Plush Soft - Gives a body-hugging feel from softer foams and extra padding in the pillow top. This firmness level is most suited for lighter-weight people who often find mattresses to be too firm, and thus too hard on their joints, and side sleepers who appreciate a bit of extra contouring.
• Luxury Firm - This is the firmness level most people get, and the one that will also suit most. It's designed to replicate the comfort level used in luxury hotels, and is made to accommodate every range of sleep style and, of course, couples who can't agree on a firmness level.
• Firm - This firmness level is designed to feel like you're lying on top of the mattress rather than sinking into it, with firmer foams for balanced resistance.  It's great for back and stomach sleepers or heavier body types, and for anyone who's doctor recommends an extra-firm mattress.

Pressure Relief

The combination of both spring coils and memory foam make the Saatva Classic a bed that incorporates all of the greatest features of night time comfort. The memory foam allows for a large degree of pressure and joint pain relief. The Saatva Classic maintains a top position for sleepers who don't mind spending extra to get the best sleep possible.

The Saatva Classic support up to 300 pounds per side. Any more weight than that and after several months you may notice sagging starting to occur. If you or your partner weigh more than that, you should think of purchasing the Saatva HD mattress instead.

Motion Isolation

While the Saatva Classic has a fair bit of motion insulating to keep you sleeping tight, you will mostly be able to feel your partner's movements to some degree, especially if they're heavier than 200 pounds. Again, this mattress is great for people of medium size - not so much for plus sized individuals. Even for lighter people, if one partner is a light sleeper and the other moves around a lot at night, this might not be the best mattress for them.

Repositioning

The Saatva Classic's spring layer helps you easily move yourself around the mattress. If you tend to switch positions a lot, or use the mattress for more than just sleep, you will come to greatly appreciate this quality.

Edge Support

The Classic mattress has a very thick, sturdy poly-foam wrapped around the edges of the mattress which contributes to the Classic's edge support. Couples will benefit from a bed with good edge support as it provides a more spacious feel to the mattress.

Heat Retention

This mattress doesn't completely contour to your body as some others do, so it leaves more of your surface area exposed to air, and thus makes it easier for you to regulate your body temperature. The construction of the mattress itself also lends itself to cooling, since several of its layers are made from breathable materials or have actual air spacing their parts. Overall, this mattress is great for people who sleep hot.

Frame & Foundation

You can add a foundation and a frame to your purchase, which cost $195 and $119 respectively. The foundation is a wood slat design that contains eco-friendly foams and is covered in organic cotton. It comes in two height options (either 4.75″ or 8.75″) so you can better adjust it to your needs. The metal frame is a steel brace that holds the foundation, and is mainly decorative, sitting 7.5″ off the ground.

These aren't always available for all mattress sizes, so take that into consideration. Do also note that the Saatva Classic is compatible with most foundations, box springs, platform beds, and adjustable bases, so if you want to keep you old one, you probably can.

Shipping & Delivery

Every Saatva mattress is made to order, which means they don't sit in storage. The Saatva mattress is tailored to your exact specifications before being hand delivered past your doorstep and into the bedroom of your choice, where they also set it up for you. Due to the custom nature of each order, the mattress takes about 3 weeks to arrive from the date of purchase.

You will get a call from the delivery company the day before your chosen delivery date. If you need to cancel, you won’t be charged a fee. Saatva offers to also remove your old mattress and foundation from your house for free if you're in need of such a service. Even if the new mattress can’t fit up your staircase, Saatva will exchange it for one of a different size or height, or take it back at no charge to you and issue a refund with only a $99 charge that covers the cost of labor and gas for the delivery.

It's safe to say that purchasing a mattress from Saatva is one of the most convenient and stress-free big purchases you'll ever make.

The Saatva mattress can be shipped anywhere within the US for free, though the company currently does not ship directly to Hawaii or Alaska. Returns & Warranty

The Saatva Classic has a 180 night trial, and can be returned at any point during this time. There is a $99 labor and transport fee, as the Saatva deliverymen will come and pick up the mattress from you.

The $99 fee will also apply if you just want to trade for a different mattress, so make sure to measure your bed frame and height before ordering.

The Saatva Classic has a 15 year warranty, assuring that the mattress will free from defects in workmanship and materials.

• Years 1-2 - Defective mattresses replaced at no cost
• Years 3-15 - Defective mattress will be repaired and re-covered for $198 (99 each way)

Within the first two years if there are any problems or defects with the mattress, Saatva will issue a replacement mattress at no charge.

There is an additional warranty option, known as the "Fairness Replacement Option". You get to keep your mattress and are sent another one at a fraction of the cost plus $99 for shipping. You can keep the original, so if it's state isn't too bad, it is a great option for using in your guest room.

The Bottom Line

The Saatva Classic is not intended to be an average bed that any person can use, despite how it seems due to the mattress' high degree of adjustability. The Saatva Classic was designed to be an ultimate, all-encompassing night time experience. The customizable features of the Saatva Classic, as well as the combination of strong, bouncy coils and body contouring memory foam, make the mattress a fantastic choice for nearly any person.

It should be stated though that the Saatva Classic, or any Saatva mattress for that matter, is quite pricey in comparison to the mattresses of most other retailers.
