Aside from being one of the cheaper options out there for a high-end hybrid mattress, the Helix Dusk is a medium-feel mattress which the vast majority of people will find suitable for their needs. It's made of safe, breathable materials that keep you cool at night, has strong spinal support and pressure relief qualities, and fits all sleeping positions. If you're not a very light sleeper and don't mind letting the mattress air out for a few days to get rid of its factory smell, then this should allow you to sleep soundly, or have some comfortable intimate fun with a partner.

Mattress Construction

The Helix Dusk is a four-layer hybrid mattress, combining the soft, cradling properties of memory foam with individually pocketed coils for optimal spinal support.

Cover: Soft and stretchy cover that's sturdy and breathable.

Layer 1: The next layer is made of Helix Dynamic Foam, which is a latex-foam hybrid alternative with a medium feel. Latex foam is typically a bit more durable than memory foam, and doesn’t trap heat the way some memory foam materials do. Designed to react and contour to your body.

Layer 2: Next up comes the transition layer, which is made of Memory Plus foam. This is a contouring layer that provides ergonomic support and relieves pressure on places like the shoulders and hips.

Layer 3: Below the foam is a support layer made of individually pocketed coils. These innerspring coils offer tons of bouncy support and help promote airflow throughout the bed. Feel

The Helix Dusk is definitely on the softer side of the firmness scale. Both the pocketed spring coils as well as the memory foam makes for a very comfortable sleep if you prefer a less firm feel to your mattress. The Helix Dusk possesses a relaxing body contouring feeling thanks to the layer of memory foam above the pocketed coils. While the mattress provides a nice amount of responsiveness you won't feel stuck or have issues getting in or out of bed.

Pressure Relief

The Helix Dusk is more than adequate at minimizing pain or loss of circulation in pressure points like the hips and shoulders. In fact, you could basically lay on this mattress in any position without feeling any unwanted pressure on a body part or joint. If you tend to toss and turn throughout the night, you should be seriously taking this into consideration.

Motion Isolation

While hybrid mattresses tend to do great at limiting motion transfer, the Helix Dusk only performs mediocrally in this regard. The heavier you are, the more your partner will notice this shortcoming. If you or your partner tends to toss and turn throughout the night, and the other is a light sleeper, this mattress may not be the absolute best choice for you.

Repositioning

This mattress, while fairly soft, has noticeable springiness and responsiveness, and you don't sink into it very much when laying on it. Moving on top of it or out of the bed is not any issue, even while groggy and half asleep.

Edge Support

The Helix Dusk is specifically designed to provide great edge support. The mattress' layer of pocketed springs have a tough outer perimeter of more numerous and smaller coils for this exact purpose, which makes the mattress fell much bigger than it is and keeps you from falling off of it even while you're laying on its edge.

Heat Retention

The combination of breathable foam that doesn't fully conform to your body (and thus lets your surface area breath) and a layer of pocketed coils that's basically mostly filled with air turns out to be a wonderful formula for heat dissipation. If you tend to sleep hot, this is an incredibly suitable option for you.

Frame & Foundation

If you lack a suitable foundation for the mattress, you can purchase one along with it for $249-$399, depending on its model (the bigger it is, the pricier its foundation is). This birch slat foundation is upholstered with woven fabric and can be assembled and disassembled within minutes. Having a foundation for your mattress is important to extend its comfort lifespan and improve airflow, and so it is fully recommended that you get it if you don't have one. If you do, chances are the Helix Dusk will fit on it if it's in the same size.

You can also purchase a Helix bed frame made of hardened steel and fiberglass-infused resins for an $150-$175, depending on the mattress' size. This bed frame can support up to 2,500 lbs with zero motion transfer or noise, and is as easy to assemble as the foundation is.

These extras aren't always available for all mattress sizes. Like the Helix mattresses, are made in the US.

Helix LUXE Upgrade

Helix offers an upgrade to your Dusk mattress that will enhance it to hotel-quality level in terms of support and feel. The LUXE upgrade adds several features that add additional support and cushioning without adding any sink.

To start, the cover of the mattress is changed to an environmentally friendly TENCEL fiber quilted pillow top made from from Eucalyptus trees for plush comfort. It's even softer to the touch than the default Dusk cover and features enhanced breathability for better cooling and moisture wicking.

Next, the Helix Dusk LUXE has an added 2" layer of Gel Visco memory foam for pressure relief, which comes in addition to the usual layers of Memory Plus Foam, Helix Dynamic Foam and high-grade polyfoam.

Lastly, Helix Dusk LUXE mattress features an 8" individually pocketed coil unit with different zones for better lumbar support: the coils underneath your shoulders provide a softer feel, while the coils under your hips provide a firmer feel to help align your spine and cradle your body. This helps lessen back, shoulder and hip discomfort and provides better support due to the smaller size and larger number of pocketed coils.

The warranty for Helix LUXE mattresses is 15 years instead of the standard 10. If you want to invest a bit more to get a truly extraordinary sleeping experience, then consider adding the LUXE upgrade, as it makes quite a difference.

Additional Details

Helix mattresses have a fairly strong off-gassing smell, though that's true for most online mattresses. Just be sure to leave your new mattress in a well-ventilated area for about 24 hours after unboxing to ensure any odor dissipates before you sleep on it.

The main draw of the  Helix Dusk, and any Helix mattress for that matter, is its price. They are noticeably cheaper than the alternatives, while being just as high-quality as them. Shipping & Delivery

All Helix products are shipped for free within the US. They arrive within a week or two from the moment of purchase. Once a mattress is purchased, customers receive a confirmation email along with an itemized receipt.

Returns & Warranty

Helix offers a 100 night trial on all of their mattresses, and allow you to return the mattress for a full refund if you're still unsatisfied after this trial period. Helix does require all its customers to at least try out their newly bought mattress for a month before being able to return it for a refund, which is common within the mattress industry to ensure the customer has broken in the mattress and had enough time to grow accustomed to its feel.

All Helix mattresses come with a 10 year warranty, though only US residents are covered by it. The warranty also only covers regular wear and tear that happens to a mattress, so if the defect was in any way caused by anyone other than the factory that made it or father time, then the warranty becomes void.
