Mattress Construction
The Intention Hybrid is 14'' thick. It consists of a cover, two layers of different types of foam and a coil system. The mattress' three firmness options share the same structure. The firmer models have denser foam and stronger coils.
Cover: Soft and breathable polyester-based fabric called Cool-Touch. The cover is quilted with 1.5'' of fiber which further increases breathability and assists in dissipating excess heat.
Comfort Layer: 1.5'' of malleable hyper-conductive Sparkle memory foam, which contours the body relieving excess pressure. The foam has a convoluted structure so as to increase air flow and enable better cooling.
Transition Layer: 2" of light, medium or high density poly foam (in the Plush, Medium and Firm models respectively) lifting sleepers' body and curbing sinkage.
Support Layer: 7" individually encased coils delivering supportive bounce. The Firm model comes with coils of the lowest gauge. The Medium and Plush models come with medium and high coils gauge respectively making them less sturdy. Whatever the gauge is, the coil system in the three models is reinforced in the center providing improved zoned support. The coils are also wrapped in poly foam around the perimeter for increased edge support.
Feel
The soft cover fabric and the fiber it's infused with give a smooth silk-like feel and enhance comfort at the point sleepers' body touches the mattress. Their improved breathability also keeps the surface of the mattress cool and dry even after long hours of sleep.
The contouring memory foam in the comfort layer wraps the body and provides a pleasant sinking sensation. The hardened poly foam in the transition layer and the bouncy coils elevate the body preventing sleepers from feeling they're stuck in the mattress.
The Plush model is much cozier as it enables deeper pressure relieving sinkage. In contrast, the Firm model minimizes sinkage increasing sleeper's stability. The Medium firmness model combines these two opposite effects allowing a more balanced feel of contouring and support.
Pressure Relief
Lightweight side sleepers will feel highly comfortable on the Intention Hybrid's Plush model. The fiber in the cover and the conforming memory foam in the comfort layer will cradle their hips and shoulders. The harder poly foam in the transition layer will lift these areas while still keeping the mattress sufficiently contouring to minimize pressure.
Average and heavyweight side sleepers will find the Intention Hybrid's Medium firmness model to be the most suitable for them. On the one hand, the mattress is soft enough to avert the accumulation of pressure in their hips and shoulders. On the other hand, the medium density poly foam in the transition layer and the coils below will deliver the necessary support to keep these sleepers 'on' the mattress helping them maintain a healthy sleeping position.
Back sleepers who weigh up to 150 pounds will be properly supported by the Intention Hybrid's Plush model. The greater sinkage this model enables is exactly what is required to create a cradling effect in their lumbar back, mitigate pressure and sooth the muscles.
Average weight back sleepers will plunge too deep into the mattress lying on its Plush model. The Medium firmness model will be a better fit for them. The fiber in the cover and the memory foam in the comfort layer will mold to their body enhancing their comfort. The medium density poly foam and, especially, the zoned support the coils deliver will target their lumbar and thoracic spine making sure their back remains optimally aligned.
Heavyweight back sleepers should opt for the Intention Hybrid's Firm model. Their massive body requires a robust mattress capable of curbing excess sagging, which may otherwise throw their spine out of its natural alignment.
Stomach sleepers will benefit most from the Intention Hybrid's zoned support. The reinforced center of the coil system will lift their abdomen area and alleviate pressure in their lumbar back. Lightweight sleepers will get along fine with either the soft or medium firmness model. These models can carry their weight quite well while offering them ample cushioning around the waist and in their hips.
Their average and heavyweight counterparts will prefer the Intention Hybrid's Firm model. These sleepers, especially those whose weight exceeds 250 pounds, will suffer from excess sinking in the area under their rib cage lying on a mattress which can't adequately support them. This sinking may result in curvature disorders, discomfort and pain.
Motion Isolation
The Intention Hybrid has average capacity for motion isolation. On the one hand, the 1.5'' fiber attached to the cover provides some cushioning, which impedes motion transfer. Moreover, the coils are individually wrapped and so can reduce motion transfer better than a traditional coil system.
Yet, on the other hand, the mattress' 1.5'' contouring memory foam layer is relatively too thin to absorb a large portion of the energy generated by sleepers' movements. This energy is released in the form of bounce once it reaches the denser poly foam and the coils in the transition and support layers below.
The Plush model isolates motion better the the Medium firmness model, which in its turn isolates motion better than the Firm model due to being more conforming and, consequently, more sinkable.
Repositioning
The Intention Hybrid enables sleepers to move quite easily on its surface. The dense poly foam in the transition layer counters the sinkage caused by the memory foam above. Together with the bounce, which comes from the coils in the support layer, sleepers are kept from being stuck in the mattress and can, therefore, adjust their sleeping positions without exerting too much effort.
The Plush model is an exception to that. Being much more contouring than the Medium and the Firm models, it hampers movement and makes repositioning much more difficult, especially for heavier sleepers.
Edge Support
The Intention Hybrid has excellent edge support. The combination of dense poly foam in the transition layer and 7'' steel coils makes its perimeter highly stable. The coils around the exterior are wrapped in poly foam, which further increases their firmness and their capacity for elevating sleepers lying close to the edge.
The Firm model provides the best edge support thanks to its denser poly foam in the transition layer and to its lower gauge coils in the support layer. It's better equipped to deal with XL sleepers who lie away from the mattress' center.
Heat Retention
The Intention Hybrid is engineered to reduce heat retention and provide sleepers with a cool and pleasant sleeping environment. The fiber in its cover is highly breathable effectively wicking away moisture from the body. The memory foam, despite the sinkage its causes and its tendency towards trapping heat, succeeds in reaming cool thanks to its convoluted structures, which facilitates free flow of air. Lastly, the coils in the support layer augment the cooling process by also allowing air to flow in and out of the mattress.
Frame & Foundation
The Intention Hybrid works well with almost all the foundations, frames and adjustable bases you'll find on the market on condition that they're solid enough to support it. If you're going to use a slat bad, make certain the slats are no more than 4'' apart.

Additional Details
Diamond is a California-based family-run company, which has been operating in the US market for four generations. It manufactures and sells online and offline a variety of mattresses of all types and sizes, sleep platforms and bedding accessories. All these products are 100% American-made.
The company's foam related mattresses, the Intention Hybrid is included, are CertiPUR-US certified indicating they don't contain materials which may pose risk to sleepers' health or pollute the environment, for example ozone depleters, PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants, formaldehyde, phthalates and heavy metals. The company is also committed to the reduction of volatile organic compound emissions.
Shipping & Delivery
The Intention Hybrid will reach your doorstep wrapped in plastic, rolled and compressed in a box in 3-7 business days. You'll have to set it up by yourself as the company doesn't offer white glove delivery.
The mattress is shipped to any place within the contiguous 48 states free of charge. Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii and Canada is currently not available.
Returns & Warranty
The Intention Hybrid comes with a 120-night trial and a break in period of 30 nights. That is to say, if you decide that you want to return the mattress 30 night after you got it and before 120 nights have elapsed, you'll be entitled to full refund and you won't need to pay for shipping. Returned mattresses are not resold. They're donated to charity.
The Intention Hybrid is also backed by a 20-year warranty. During the first ten years, Diamond will replace a defective mattress with a new one at zero charge. From the 10th year onwards, the company will repair or replace the mattress. The buyer will have to cover shipping costs. Buyers will also have the option to replace a defective mattress with a brand new one at a 50% discount and the cost of shipping.
The warranty applies to the original buyer only, and it covers deterioration of the foam including impressions on the surface of the mattress deeper that 1.5'' and manufacturing defects. The warranty doesn't cover comfort preferences, a normal increase in the softness of the foam pressure reliving material, accidental damage (e.g. burning marks, cuts and stains) and wear to the fabric from use including but not limited to color changes.
The warranty becomes void if the mattress is ill-treated and if it's placed on an improper foundation, that is, a foundation which isn't supportive enough.
The Bottom Line
The Intention Hybrid is far from being the cheapest mattress on the market, but it offers an upgraded sleep experience characterized by a sound balance of pressure relieving contouring and support, easy repositioning, strong edge support and reduced heat retention. Being available in three firmness options, the mattress is designed to appeal to sleepers of varying weights and sleeping styles.
Where is the Diamond Intention Hybrid manufactured?
Like all of Diamond's mattresses, the Intention Hybrid is American-made. It's manufactured in California and Texas.
How do I set up the the Diamond Intention Hybrid?
The Intention Hybrid will be delivered to you wrapped in plastic, rolled and compressed in a box. Carry the box to the room where you intend the mattress to be, unpack the mattress, place it on its foundation, remove the plastic and unroll it. The mattress will start to expand. It'll take it several hours to reach its full size.
Does the Diamond Intention Hybrid have to be off-gassed?
The moment you set up the mattress, it will release some gas containing volatile organic compounds. Since the mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, there will be only a small amount of that gas. You may notice a faint odor, yet there is no cause for alarm as the gas is non-toxic. It'll disperse in a few days. Leaving your room window open will speed up off-gassing.
Can the Diamond Intention Hybrid be flipped?
The Intention Hybrid isn't flippable. Its bottom layer is made of steel coils, and, so, it's not suitable for sleep.
Does Diamond Intention Hybrid require a special foundation
The Intention Hybrid is compatible with most of the foundations available on the market on condition that they're firm enough to support its weight. If you plan to use a slat bed, make sure the slats are no more than 4'' apart.
Is the Diamond Intention Hybrid environmentally-friendly?
The Intention Hybrid is CertiPUR-US certified, guaranteeing its foam is free of substances which may harm the environment.
Are there any financing options for buying the Diamond Intention Hybrid?
