Mattress Construction
The Spartan Luxe is a hybrid mattress with a comfort layer comprised of a variety of foam-based materials for enhanced contouring and point pressure relief as well as a set of coils for bounciness and robust support.
Cover: A smart fabric which converts body heat into Far Infrared Rays and reflects them back to sleepers' body improving circulation and rejuvenating the muscles.
Comfort Layer: Three types of foam fulfilling complementary functions:
- 1.5'' of CopperFlex comprised of copper infused poly foam and small gel beads branded as TitanCool. CopperFlex is highly responsive to sleepers' body alleviating excess pressure. The copper in it has anti-bacterial qualities. Titan Cool is a phase change material which effectively dissipates heat.
- 2'' of TitanFlex — elastic latex-like poly foam capable of adjusting to body movements giving the mattress bounciness and durabilty.
- 1'' of gel swirl memory foam for extra contouring
Support Layer: up to 1,032 8'' individually encased pocketed coils providing the mattress with firmness and support.
Base Layer: 0.75'' of high-density poly foam supporting the coils as they compress.
Feel
As mentioned above, the Spartan Luxe comes in three firmness levels of soft, medium and firm. The soft model was designed to fully conform to sleepers body weight and maximize comfort. The medium model provides a balanced feel of contouring and support. The thick foam-based comfort layer pleasantly cradles the body while the coils prevent over-sinking. The firm model focuses on support at the expense of contouring and, therefore provides stability with minimum sinking.
Regardless of firmness level, the mattress' cover with its Far Infrared Rays technology gives a plush soft feel which soothes the entire body and relives pain. It's also cool to the touch.
Pressure Relief
Light and average side sleepers will find the soft model of the Spartan Luxe highly comfortable. The CopperFlex and the memory foam in the comfort layer provide plenty of contouring. Together with the bounciness created by the elastic TitanFlex and the support of the coils, these sleepers will benefit from pressure reduction in the hips and shoulders, which promises them a good night sleep.
XL side sleepers may require the medium Spartan Luxe model to avoid over-sinking and, as a result, improper spine alignment. The soft model isn't supportive enough for them and can't relieve pressure effectively.
Back sleepers who weigh less than 150 pounds will get enough support from the soft mattress model. The thick foam-based comfort layer will assist in alleviating pressure in the lumbar area.
Average and heavyweight back sleepers should opt either for the medium or the firm model. They'll need sufficient support to prevent lower back pain.
Stomach sleepers who weigh up to 250 pounds should go for the medium model of the Spartan Luxe. The foam in the mattress will cushion their chest and hips and will relieve pressure in the lower abdomen area. At the same time, they'll need stronger support than the soft model can provide to curb excessive sinking.
Plus-size stomach sleepers whose weight exceeds 250 pounds ought to opt for the firm Spartan model as they require a highly stable sleeping surface to prevent their spine from curving and causing back problems.
Motion Isolation
The Spartan Luxe contains lots of foam. This foam, especially the gel swirl memory foam, which slowly returns to its former states once compressed, isolates sleepers movement exceptionally well.
The coils can generate some kinetic energy, but the fact that they're individually encased ensures that little energy spreads throughout the mattress. To make a long story short, sleeping on the Spartan Luxe, you'll probably not feel your partner's small movements during the night.
Repositioning
Thanks to the bounciness provided by the elastic latex-like TitanFlex in the comfort layer and the 8'' coils, movement on the surface of the Sparatan Luxe isn't too difficult. Naturally, the mattress' soft model creates more sinking which hinders movement while the bouncier medium and firm models enable easier movement and repositioning.
Edge Support
The Spartan Luxe's ability to support sleepers on its perimeter is limited, especially when it comes to the soft model and to heavier sleepers. The abundant foam the mattress contains causes too much sinking on its edges, which forces sleepers to move towards the center utilizing a smaller portion of it surface.
Heat Retention
The Spartan Luxe is the right choice for people who sleep hot. The cover with its Far Infrared Rays technology does a wonderful job keeping the mattress cool. By converting heat into energy and redirecting it towards sleeper's body, it significantly reduces heat retention on the surface of the mattress.
Next, the TitanCool gel beads in the comfort layer release heat keeping the inner part of the mattress cool. The coils also contribute to the mattress' cooling capacity by enabling free flow of air and effective moisture wicking.
Frame & Foundation
The Spartan works great on a variety of solid foundations including non-flexible box springs and bed frames with slats. If the latter are chosen, the slats must be no more than 3'' apart.
Brooklyn Bedding puts at your disposal its own foundations characterized by critical center support.
