Mattress Construction
The Chill 14'' consists of two layers of soft foam backed by a thick layer of highly dense poly foam functioning as the mattress' supporting foundation.
Cover: Plush and delicate fabric made of a mixture of breathable cotton and polyester. The cotton facilitates moisture wicking reducing heat retention.
The cover fabric is infused with Nano-Stain Terminator composed of biodegradable substances which repel stains.
Comfort Layer: 3'' of soft gel-swirl memory foam. The gel provides extra contouring and helps cool the mattress.
Transition Layer: 3'' of highly conforming Variflex (polyurethane) foam increasing the mattress' capacity for mitigating body pressure.
Support Layer: 8'' of dense poly foam preventing sleepers from excessive sinking and providing the mattress with overall structural firmness and durability.
Feel
The breathable cotton in the cover fabric keeps the surface of the mattress pleasantly cool and dry.
The thick layers of malleable memory foam and Variflex foam envelop the body, sink with it and give sleepers a cozy melting-into-the bed sensation. At the same time, the hardened poly Foam below prevents this sinking from being excessive and, by doing so, generates stability making sleepers feel secure and well supported.
Pressure Relief
The Chill 14'' is ideal for lightweight sleepers of all types. They'll highly benefit from the mattress' improved pressure reliving qualities. The soft and cushy foam will target sensitive areas in their body (the hips and shoulders, the middle and lower back and the abdomen and lower back in the case of side, back and stomach sleepers respectively) mitigating pain. At the same time, the more solid poly foam will provide them with adequate support necessary for keeping their spine properly aligned.
Average weight side sleepers will find the Chill 14'' fairly comfortable enjoying a balance of contouring and support. The mattress will be able to carry their weight enabling them to maintain healthy posture.
However the closer these side sleepers get to 250 pounds, the less supportive the Chill 14'' will become for them. The same applies to average back and stomach sleepers. They'll suffer from excessive sinking which will lead to discomfort and pain. These sleepers should try the Chill's firmer 12'', 10'' and 8'' models.
The Chill 14'' is not designed for heavyweight sleepers. Its medium-soft firmness level cannot support their weight. These sleepers are recommended checking out the most solid Chill 8'' and 6'' or ,alternatively, opt for special mattresses designed for plus size people.
Motion Isolation
The Chill 14'' is the obvious choice for sleepers looking for a mattress with high capacity for motion isolation. The thick foam layers will effectively absorb almost all sleepers' movements providing a silent and motionless sleep environment.
Practically speaking, you can sleep beside a restless partner and you'll most likely won't be disturbed by him or her during the night.
Repositioning
The flip side is that the Chill 14'' performs poorly when it comes to repositioning. Due to the sinking caused by its two upper layers of soft foam, sleepers, especially heavier ones, will have to exert relatively a lot of effort into changing sleep positions or getting out of bed, and this can be tiring.
Edge Support
The hardened 8'' poly foam in the support layer of the Chill 14'' isn't as effective as coils or latex in strengthening the mattress perimeter and is, definitely, not enough to counter the excessive sinking the pliable foam in the comfort and the transition layers causes. The inevitable result is that the mattress' edges are not well supported.
Even lightweight sleepers won't feel stable enough sleeping on the mattress' edge, not to mention heavier ones, who will have to sleep closer to the center, where they'll feel more secure.
Heat Retention
Foam mattresses tend to retain heat, especially soft ones. However the Chill 14'' is built to remain cool. The breathable cotton in its cover does a good job drawing perspiration away from the body. The gel in the memory foam helps disperse heat throughout the mattress preventing the accumulation of hot spots. On top of that, the foam in the Chill 14'' is manufactured using open cell technology. This method makes it much more aerated than regular foam.
Taking all of that into account, the Chill 14'' will provide you with a cool sleep environment and is, therefore, a good choice for sleepers living in hot and humid areas.
Frame & Foundation
The Chill 14'' is compatible with the majority of the foundations and frames available on the market as long as they're robust enough to carry its weight. In case you opt for a slat bed, the slats must be maximum 3'' apart. Brooklyn Bedding manufactures its own foundations characterized by strong center support.
The Super Duty High Rise Platform is a solid tubular steel construct. Its prices vary from $139 for a Twin XL mattress (it doesn't fit a Twin mattress) to $219 for a California King mattress.
The Ascension Bi-Fold Foundation looks and feels like a box spring. It can easily be assembled and moved from one room to another. It's sold with a zip-off cover, which can be removed and washed. A foundation for a Twin size mattress is offered at $229. For a California King mattress, you'll pay $329.
The Ready to Assemble Box Foundation also has the look and feel of a box spring. Similar to the Ascension Bi-Fold Foundation, it's easy to assemble, and it's highly portable. Prices range from $249 for a Twin mattress and $369 for a California King mattress.
All foundations can support a maximum weight of 1,500 pounds. They come with a 3-year limited parts replacement warranty.
The Chill 12'' can also be placed on a great variety of adjustable bases. Brooklyn Bedding offers 3 models for its mattresses.
The Electric Adjustable Base is equipped with two quiet motors through which you can adjust the head and foot of the bed. It can support up to 650 pounds. It's built only for a Queen size mattress, and its price is $599.

The warranty doesn't cover natural wear-and-tear, spills, stains, cuts and burning marks. It becomes void if the mattress is not treated properly, especially if it's placed on an unsuitable or insufficiently supportive foundation.
The Bottom Line
The Chill 14'' is the optimal choice for sleepers seeking a soft and comfortable mattress which will cradle their body and alleviate pressure. The mattress' enhanced contouring comes at the expense of support as it's not design for heavier sleepers. These sleepers should try the other Chill models, which are firmer and more supportive.
Similar to these other models, the Chill 14'' is sold at an affordable price allowing you to enjoy a high quality mattress without putting too much burden on your budget.
