Mattress Construction

The Cub-Kids is 8.5'' thick. It consists of two layers of foam on top of a coil system. The mattress comes in two sizes of Twin and Full and in two colors of Arctic Blue and Salmon orange.

Cover: Biodegradable, soft and breathable Tencel fibers providing excellent moisture wicking.

Comfort Layer: Gel memory foam which molds to sleepers' body relieving pressure and enhancing comfort. The Gel assists in dispersing excess heat.

Transition Layer: Responsive medium density poly foam delivering supportive bounce.

Support Layer: 6'' individually encased coils generating lift and increasing sleepers' stability. The coils are reinforced around the mattress' perimeter making the edges firmer and safer.

Feel

Made of wood cellulose, the Tencel fibers in the cover allow for good airflow and absorb moisture keeping the surface of the mattress cool and dry to the touch.

The memory foam in the comfort layer wraps young sleepers' body making them feel cozy. The supple poly foam in the transition layer below adds some pleasant bounce to that cozy feel. Together with lift generated by the coils, it prevents sleepers from being swallowed by the malleable memory foam keeping them 'on' the mattress instead of 'in' it.

Safety and Certifications

The Cub-Kids is CertiPUR-US certified, which means it's free of ozone depleters, PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants, formaldehyde, phthalates, heavy metals and any other substances which may risk your child's health or pollute the environment.

Moreover, Bear is GREENGUARD Gold certified indicating it meets stringent guidelines for curtailing the emissions of chemical pollutants (volatile organic compounds in particular) so as to make sure sleepers breathe high-quality indoor air.

Accident Proofing

The poly foam in the Cub-Kids' transition layer is highly resilient and resistant to tear and cracks. The steel coils add durability to the mattress. Practically speaking, if treated properly, the mattress can last for many years. It can be used by sleepers from early childhood to middle adolescence and can be passed on from one child to another.

On the negative side, the mattress is not water-proof, which can be problematic in cases of spills or bed-wetting.

Good edge support makes the mattress safer for children as it keeps them from rolling of bed upon lying away from the center.

Heat Retention

The Cub-Kids effectively regulates temperature enabling your child to sleep cool, especially in hot and humid areas. The breathable Celliant fiber in its cover neutralizes body heat and wicks it away. By turning heat into infrared energy it actively cools down the mattress' surface. The gel in the memory foam dissipates trapped heat. Lastly, the coils augment the cooling process by enabling free circulation of air in and out of the mattress.

Frame & Foundation

The Cub-Kids is compatible with most of the foundations and frames you'll find on the market as long as they're capable of carrying its weight. It's not recommended using a traditional coil box spring as its unevenly distributed surface area makes it inadequately supportive for hybrid mattresses. Bear offers two sleep platforms which may fit the Cub-Kids.

The Bear Frame is a non-expensive sturdy construct manufactured from fiberglass-infused resins. It can easily be assembled and can support up to 2,500 pounds. The frame is backed by a 10-year limited warranty and is shipped for free. Its prices are $98 for a Twin mattress to $121 for a Full mattress.

The Bear Foundation is built from solid wood. Its sides are upholstered in gray fabric. It comes with free shipping and a 1-year limited warranty. A foundation for a Twin and Full mattresses costs $300 and $325 respectively.

Shipping & Delivery

The Cub-Kids will be delivered to you wrapped in plastic, rolled and compressed in a 42''*19"*19'' box in 3-10 business days. You'll have to set it up by yourself as the company doesn't offer white glove delivery.

The mattress is shipped to any place within the contiguous USA for free. Shipping to Hawaii and Alaska requires an additional cost of $100. Bears doesn't ship its mattresses to Canada.

Returns & Warranty

The Cub-Kids comes with a 120-night trial and a break-in period of 30 nights. In other words, you may return the mattress and get a full refund after your child slept on it for no less than 30 nights and no more than 120 nights. Your returned mattresses will be donated to charity.

The Cub-Kids is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. This warranty extends to the original buyer only. It covers impressions on the surface deeper than 1.5'' and manufacturing flaws resulting in the premature erosion of the foam, for example splits or cracks which happened although the mattress was handled properly.

The warranty doesn't cover the following cases:

• minor imperfections and small cosmetic flaws.
• normal wear and tear.
• an increase in softness owing to normal usage.
• changing comfort preferences.
• mold, odors, and/or discoloration which were caused by abnormal care including liquid spills, improper ventilation and prolonged exposure to water or humidity.
• naturally occurring aromas.
• accidental damage, like stains and burning marks.

The warranty may be annulled if the mattress is maltreated or placed on a foundation which is improper or inadequately supportive.

Buyer can supplement the warranty with accident protection against cuts, punctures and stains from food, drink and bodily fluids. This extra protection costs $49.99, $69.99 and $89.99 for three, five and ten years respectively.
