The Amerisleep AS2 is an all-foam medium-firm mattress engineered to provide sleepers, especially heavier ones, with robust support without overlooking their need for pressure relieving contouring. The mattress also excels at motion isolation and temperature regulation.

The AS2 is the second in a series of AS models starting with the AS1 and ending with the AS5. The AS1 and the AS2 are the thinnest and firmest. The higher the number gets, the thicker and softer the mattress becomes.

Mattress Construction

The AS2 is 12'' thick. It's made of 3 layers of different types of foam with varying degrees of density and firmness so as to provide the mattress with contouring, support and durability.

Cover: soft and breathable cotton and polyester fabric, which enables enhanced moisture wicking.

Comfort layer: 2" of ultra-conforming 10 ILD viscoelastic Bio-Pur memory foam. This foam has an open-cell structure designed to reduce heat retention.

Transition Layer: 3'' of highly dense 40 ILD poly foam applying Surface Modification Technology (SMT) based on 5 zoned support separately targeting different areas in the body. The foam has a convoluted structure facilitating free flow of air.

Support Layer: 7'' of dense 35 ILD Bio-Core poly foam generating lift, curbing excess sinking and adding durability to the mattress.

Feel

The AS2's cover fabric provides a gentle and smooth feel. Its breathability keeps the surface of the mattress cool and dry.

The soft Bio-Pur memory foam adds cushioning to the mattress and gives a pleasant sinking sensation. The hardened foam in the transition and support layers delivers bounce and firm support, which counters this sinking and, therefore, enables sleepers to feel stable by preventing them from being stuck in the mattress.

Pressure Relief

The medium-firm firmness level of the AS2 is too much for light and average weight side sleepers, who require a highly contouring mattress to mitigate pressure in the sensitive parts of their body, the hips and shoulders in particular. They should opt for the softer and more conforming AS5 model.

Heavyweight side sleepers will get along well with the AS2. The soft Bio-Pur memory foam in the comfort layer slowly resumes its former state once compressed. It'll, therefore, cradle their body relaxing their joints and muscles. At the same time, the SMT zoned support will lift their hips and shoulder helping them sleep in good alignment.

Lightweight back sleepers won't get the pressure relieving contouring from the too firm AS2. Sleeping on the mattress, they may end up feeling discomfort and suffering from pain.

In contrast, their counterparts who weigh more than 150 pounds are probably going to like the mattress. The Bio-Pur memory foam in the upper comfort layer will provide them with moderate sinking, which is enough to mitigate pressure in their lumbar spine. The poly foam in the transition layer with its SMT support technology will target their thoracic and lumbar spine helping them maintain a healthy posture.

Stomach sleepers require a highly supportive mattress capable of preventing sinking in their abdomen area, which may exert pressure on their lumbar back. The AS2 does exactly that, and so it's a great fit for these sleepers in all weight groups. 

The soft memory foam in the comfort layer will contour the area below their rib cage providing ample cushioning and pressure relief. At the same time, the zoned support given by the poly foam in the transition layer below will elevate their abdomen keeping their lower back well supported. The hardened Bio-Core foam in the support layer will prevent excess sinking, especially when it comes to XL sleepers.

Motion Isolation

Despite being a medium-firm mattress, the AS2's capacity to dampen motion is well above the average. The 2'' soft memory foam in the comfort layer does a good job absorbing most of the kinetic energy generated by sleepers' movements.

In addition, the zoned support provided by the transition layer cushions areas in the body (mainly the hips and shoulders) which tend to generate motion and, therefore enable sleepers peaceful nights.

Repositioning

Although the AS2 is an all-foam mattress without coils, the high density foam in the transition and support layers curbs sinking and generate enough lift and bounce to enable a relatively easy movement on its surface, even for plus-size sleepers.

This is great for couples engaging in intimate activity. They won't have to make too much effort to change positions.

Edge Support

The soft memory foam in the comfort layer slightly weakens the perimeter of the AS2 to the extent that sleepers, the heavier ones in particular, may experience some sagging lying close to the edge.

On the bright side, the strong support given by the hardened foam in the layers below makes sure this sagging is not excessive. So sleepers will still feel stable close to the edge.

Heat Retention

The AS2 is designed to reduce heat retention. Its breathable cover facilitates moisture wicking keeping its surface cool even after long hours of sleep. The open cell technology used in the construction of the Bio-Pur memory foam draws heat away from sleepers' body. The convoluted structure of the poly foam in the transition layer enables free circulation of air in and out of the mattress intensifying the cooling effect.

They include head and foot articulation (60 degrees max head tilt and 35 degrees max foot tilt), wireless remote, Alexa, Google Home and mobile app controls, three preset setting and under-bed Led lighting. The bed comes with 6'', 9'' or 12'' legs. Prices range from $1,260 for a Twin XL mattress to $3,000 for a California King and Split King mattresses. The Adjustable Bed+ comes with free white glove delivery and a 10-year limited warranty.

Additional Details

Amerisleep started operating on the American market in 2010. Its mattresses, including the AS2, are 100% American-made. They're manufactured in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

All the AS models are CertiPUR-US certified, which means their foam doesn't contain ozone depleters, PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants, formaldehyde, phthalates, heavy metals and any other substances which may endanger sleepers' health or threaten the environment.

Moreover, to minimize carbon footprint, the production process of the Bio-Pur memory foam in the comfort layer and the Bio-Core foam in the support layer consists of plant-based oils and not on petrochemicals prevalent in the mattress industry. Lastly, Amerisleep applies strict procedures aimed at reducing emissions of volatile organic compounds.

Shipping & Delivery

The AS2 will arrive at your doorstep wrapped in plastic, rolled and compressed in a box in 7-10 days. You'll be required to carry the box the the room where you want the mattress to be, unpack the mattress and set it up. Another pair of hands is going to be a must due to the heavy weight of the box (especially if you bought one of the larger mattress sizes). Currently speaking, Amerisleep doesn't include white glove delivery on its list of services.

The AS2 is shipped for free but to destinations within the contiguous USA only. If you live in Alaska, Hawaii or Canada, you'll have to use the services of a third company and pay for shipping.

Trial & Warranty

The AS2 comes with a 100-night trial and a break in period of 30 days. This enables you to return the mattress for a full refund 30 night after you got it and no later than 100 nights.

The mattress is backed by a 20 year warranty. In the first 10 years Amerisleep will repair or replace your mattress at no additional charges. After 10 years, the warranty become prorated. In other words, you'll be asked to pay 50% of the mattress' original price and cover shipping and labor costs.

The warranty is non-transferable. That is, it extends to the original buyer only. It covers manufacturing defects, for example cracks in the foam and indentations on the surface of the mattress deeper than 1'' provided that they don't appear on the edges and in the corners.

The warranty doesn't cover natural wear-and-tear and accidental damage like stains, tears and burning marks. It becomes void if the law tag is removed and if the mattress is placed on an improper or inadequately supportive foundation.

The Bottom Line

The AS2 delivers strong support side by side with substantial pressure relieving contouring.
